Building a Small Group Budget

The purpose of the Intervention Budget is to supplement students learning. This budget

is designed to help struggling students or students with special needs. As a charter school we

are part of a Title I Grant which is a grant that is given to schools with high numbers or high

percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet

challenging state academic standards. Therefore, this programs budget is separate from the

main comprehensive school budget. In addition to the Title I Grant, there is an additional

$4,000 from the comprehensive school budget which is also added in. The grant money covers

staff salary, supplemental programs such as iReady and MobyMax, books and supplies,

before/after school programs, summer school, professional development and any other support

staff and remedial materials needed. Each year there usually a surplus of money which is then

transferred over the next year and used to build on and strengthen the intervention programs

and supports.

This budget supports our school mission which states “at National Heritage

Academies, success means creating endless opportunities for children to become their best.

Our goal is to see every child build the knowledge, skills, and character they need to excel in

school and in life” (NHA, 2020). The money from the Title I Grant allows us to provide our

students with a variety of supplemental opportunities which can be catered to their specific

needs. We are able to use the money given to support our students to the best of our abilities.

The budget is created each by a team of administrators, teachers, and parent/community

representatives to create a sense of inclusiveness and representation from all areas and people

that support our students. It is then brought to the Board of Education and NYSED for approval.

This is a group effort to best meet the needs of our students in the most successful way

possible.
