Asia Cup :
The Asia Cup is an international One Day International cricket tournament. It was established in1983 when the Asian
Cricket Council was founded as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries.
The first tournament was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates where the council's offices were
based (until 1995).
The International Cricket Council has ruled that all games played for the Asia Cup have official One Day International
status.
India lifted the Asia cup the most times (five) followed by Sri Lanka (four).
India appeared in every Cup apart from the 1986 (India pulled out due to strained cricketing relations with Sri
Lanka), 1993 (when it was cancelled due to strained political relations between India and Pakistan) and 2000
cups.
Sri Lanka, however, have appeared in every final since the cup's inception.
The ACC have announced that the tournament will be held biennially from 2008 onwards.

First played in the year 1905, at Warehouseman's Cricket Ground in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, the
tournament is managed by Tennis Australia, formerly known as Lawn Tennis Association of Australia
(LTAA).
At the beginning, the event was known as ‘The Australasian Championships’, which was changed to
‘The Australian Championships’, in 1927. Yet, another change in name occurred in the year 1969,
when it was renamed ‘Australian Open’, as it is known today.
Till date, Australian Open has been organized in five Australian and two New Zealand cities. While
most of the times the event was organized at Melbourne, the other cities that staged the tournament
were Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Christchurch and Hastings. It was only in 1972 that the National
Tennis Body decided to give the Australian Open, a permanent home. Melbourne was chosen as the
preferred destination

Work has resumed on the construction of the world’s tallest railway bridge overChenab river in
Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district after its alignment was found safe by a team of IIT-Delhi. The

The construction of the bridge was halted in July 2008 after concerns were raised over its safety and
alignment.
