When Felix Tiglao painted his Mag-

uukit on 2019 using acrylic on canvas, he

applied warm colors making it appear bright

and bold; used artistic and dynamic 2-D

geometric shapes; and put defined lines to

make it fragmented.

Tiglao contrasted it with intense, lively

and vibrant colors. The dominant red color may

be associated with the meaning of hardship

since the man in the picture is exerting much

effort on his work on sculpture or “pag-uukit”.

Similarly, since red color connotes strength, it is

just and rightful that red is the background of

the painting as the mood suggests a heavy and

energetic
 In addition, creative and detailed geometric
yet asymmetrical shapes can be seen. As it
was influenced by cubism, the main
appearance of the artwork is made up of
shapes. There are a lot of two-dimensional
triangular shapes in the overall creation of the
subjects in the painting. The men, the
materials used for “pag-uukit” and the object
that the man is working on are made up of
geometrical and hard-edged shapes.
