Education Requirements
The minimal requirement to be a
video editor is a bachelor’s degree
in film production. Getting a
master’s obviously increases your
chances of employment, and so
does having experience.
Job Availability
For job availability, there seems be a
large portion of open positions, but if
your luck seems to fail you, you
could opt to become a freelance
video editor. Meaning that you jump
from company to company editing
for them for short amounts of time.

Techniques
In video editing the main techniques
is just finding the right editing
software that you're comfortable with
and knowing how to cut and
transition the sequences of the
videos in order to make the plot of
the story seem to make
sense/interesting to the audience.
Jump Cuts - Is basically cutting a
boring portion of the video to the main
part of what happened.
Ex: Dude is walking, and there is a jump cut him
on the floor, but its still obvious to the audience
that he fell.
Montage - Is basically a way of
passing through time in a film to
progress your story
Ex: In karate kid there were was this scene where
it featured segments and parts of the main
character’s improvements in training
Match Cut - When the ending of the
scene is transitioned to the beginning
of another that is similarly looking

video editors was $62,760 in May 2016.
The lowest 10 percent earned less than
$27,640, and the highest 10 percent
earned more than $162,260.”

Your pay as an individual really depends

on your company, workload/hours, type of
editor, and the etc.
Successful People in this Industry
Michael Kahn
An American Editor born in New York
City on December 8, 1935. He is known
as the most nominated in Academy
Awards, while he holds the record of
actually winning 3 in the category of Best
Film Editing. He is also one of the few
that still edits while using film rather than
using digital softwares. Famous films
that he’s known for editing is Saving
Private Ryan, Minority Report, Raiders
Of the Lost Ark, and etc.
Crispin Struthers
An editor that has been active in this
field since 1999, and has been recently
recognised for his works in the Silver
Linings Playbook. He is a two-time
oscar-nominated film editor and was
nominated for an Academy Award for
Best Film Editing for the movie,
American Hustle, along with other fellow
editors of the film.
Why Does This Interest Me?
I think it's interesting because they are the storytellers of the film, and are an
important factors in the film industry despite not being the faces of the screen and
sometimes not being properly recognised for their works to the public.
