Violin Facts:

1. The violin is one of few instruments that’s design has hardly changed
in the last 500 years! In fact, many instruments from the last several
hundred years can still be played!
2. The violin plays the highest notes of all the strings!
3. The predecessor to the violin had frets like on a guitar. It was called a
“Viol.”

Cello Facts:
1. A cello can match the sounds of an ambulance siren, seagulls, and a cow. If you
don't belive me, look up The Piano Guys.
2. The cello is the closest sounding instrument to the human voice! Maybe that is
why this instrument is so popular in movies!
3. The cello’s real name is “violoncello,” which means “little big viol.”

Viola Facts:
1. Though the viola resembles a violin in appearance, it has a deeper sound
and lower strings like a cello!
2. The viola is one of few instruments that uses the alto clef. The viola uses
it so much more than other instruments that it is nicknamed the Viola Clef!
3. Several famous composers, such as Dvorák and J. S. Bach, played the viola.

Bass Facts:
1. The bass uses tuners similar to a guitar! They have cogs that
help twist the strings.
2. The bass plays the lowest notes of all the strings. Some are
so low, you can feel them more than hear them!
3. The bass has two different ways of holding the bow. The
French hold and the German hold.
