1. What is the cause or environmental problem generated according to
the article and where it is developed
The environmental problem generated is the contamination by chromium
(Cr) in the wastewater, generated from the tanneries process, which takes
place in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, precisely on the Buriganga River.

2. Which diseases can be presented by the handling of Cr according to the

article

 skin lesions
 ulceration and perforation of the nasal septum
 perforation of the eardrum
 decreased spermatogenesis
 lung carcinoma

3. What is the effect of co-exposure to Cr (VI) and Cr (III)

The effect of co-exposure to Cr (VI) and Cr (III) synergistically promotes the

transforming activity of human non-tumorigenic HaCaT keratinocytes with
activated MEK / ERK and AKT.

4. What is the conclusion of the study?

The study showed that the carcinogenicity of Cr (VI) increases in the

presence of Cr (III), suggesting the importance of removing Cr (III) in
addition to Cr (VI) from water. The environmental engineering study finally
showed that MF-HT, a low-cost, high-efficiency scrubber, can be used to
remove Cr (VI) and Cr (III). Therefore, our comprehensive study has
provided a workable countermeasure for Cr contamination in canals and river
waters in Dhaka City, Bangladesh.

5. Sustenance why this article is relevant for the environmental

epidemiology course.
It is relevant to the environment since it shows how certain metals such as
chromium contaminate water through industrial processes, thus affecting
bodies of water and thus affecting human health in terms of epidemiology, it
is observed with data at what levels of chromium in water affects health and
also which is the population most affected by chromium in wastewater.
