Traditional festivals and consumerism

First of all, what is festivals and how much money people are spending on them.
Traditional Festival- it is a special day, when you‘re having a great time with family
and on festivals, traditions are followed. So i‘m going to talk about the types of
festival‘s and the amount, massive amount of money that people are spending each
festival.

The 14th of February or St Valentine‘s day- a day, when romance and love is
celebrated around the world. Nobody knows exactly who St Valentine was, but
according to the legend, he was killed by the Romans because he refused to give up
his religion. But why do we remember him? On his day of death he wrote a love
letter to jailer’s daughter and signed “from your Valentine”. Whether this story is
true or not, but this Valentine's message of love has become the basis for a
multimillion-dollar industry. And today, people spend much money on the luxury
goods, as flowers, perfumes and jewellery, to surprise their lover.

Secondly, the Halloween festival, when kids are getting ready to collect full sacks of
candies. So, one of Britain’s biggest supermarkets realized that they could make a
whopping amount of money from the event. They decided to go into partnership
with an American retailer and together they created a huge advertising campaign.
The adverts showed American kids-consumers trick or treating and having fun at
horror parties.

Finally, the most favorite festival is Christmas. On December 1, hundreds of lights

on a huge tree are lit. In high streets and homes across the world, lights on billions of
other trees are lit by people, too. Also, this holiday is important for vast majority
parents, because they have to purchase a lot of presents for their children. The
companies of toys, to get a bigger profit, they make a special offer on products.
That’s how they trick us by telling, that promotions are for event occasion.
