Production[edit]
Development[edit]
In March 2016, NBC began developing a spin-off series created by The
Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp and showrunner John Eisendrath, who would both
executive produce with John Davis and John Fox, the rest of their team from the original
series. The project stars Famke Janssen as Susan "Scottie" Hargrave and Ryan
Eggold reprising his role as Tom Keen, and was conceived to highlight a similar
dynamic between Scottie and Tom to what Raymond "Red" Reddington (James
Spader) has to Liz Keen (Megan Boone) on The Blacklist.[2] Additionally, Janssen first
appeared in the role in The Blacklist episode "Susan Hargrave" in May 2016,[4] with the
following episode, "Alexander Kirk", serving as a backdoor pilot for the potential series.
[2]
The new series, named The Blacklist: Redemption, was ordered on May 14, 2016.[10] In
October 2016, David Amann was named the series' showrunner and executive
producer.[11][12] On May 12, 2017, NBC canceled the series after one season; [13] Eggold
returned to his role on The Blacklist.[14]
Casting[edit]
Along with the announcement in March 2016 of Janssen as Hargrave, [2][3] and Eggold
reprising his role as Tom Keen,[2] was the reveal that Edi Gathegi would reprise
his Blacklist role as Matias Solomon as a series regular.[4] Tawny Cypress also joined
the cast as Nez Rowan, and was introduced on The Blacklist before appearing in the
spin-off.[5] The following July, it was announced that Adrian Martinez would be a series
regular as Dumont, after previously guest-starring on The Blacklist.[3]
Terry O'Quinn's casting as Howard Hargrave, Tom's father, a recurring role, was
announced in December 2016.[6] Additional recurring characters in the series include
Theodora Miranne as Kat Carlson,[7] and Dan Amboyer as Daniel / "Trevor".[8] Boone
and Harry Lennix reprised their Blacklist roles as Elizabeth Keen and Harold Cooper,
respectively, in the series.[8][9]
