TOWARDS NOURISHMENT: A Center for

Learning
STUDIO BRIEF:

Students of 2nd Year 2nd Term are about to learn about functional complexities and
climatic effects on a project. Functional complexities stands for complex function
handling, functional linkage, functional series and spaces by ergonomics. Climatic
effects stands for ventilation, light allowance, temperature control, comfort situation
of a project. This is high time to learn about sun angles, sun path diagrams,
changing sunlight temperatures from time to time, wind flow analysis, changes of
wind direction from season to season, visual connectivity, comfort light, natural
light allowance etc. to design a comfortable space by maintaining ambient
temperature, soft lights and natural refreshing ventilation. By the side of all these
student must handle functional complexities as well. The links between two
functions and the series of leading to the main function through supporting
functions.

Students have to choose the most appropriate climatic considerations which can
increase the efficiency of the building. Comfortability should be achieved through
attaining a balance among inter-dependent social, environmental and functional
factors. This studio is focused on practicing the process of designing built
environment in a specific site in the urban context of Khulna Bangladesh.

Course Objectives:

Specific objectives of this course are to:

1. To understand basic & innovative climate handling system of building
2. To understand the functional complexity of building
3. To examine the sustainable design strategies and methods respecting
building solutions.
4. To understand the dropping, parking and shading solutions .

Learning outcome:

Upon successful completion of this course, the students are expected to:
1. Evaluate the principles of climatic behavior in project and defending the
challenges of natural climate to maximize the use of natural resources and
offer an ambient working and learning condition.
2. Recognize complex function with the relationship between human
experiences and built environment.
3. Investigate & select principles of sustainability in making environmental
systems and building envelope decisions that conserve natural and built
resources, and in the creation of healthful buildings and communities
