INTRODUCTION

The following activity is based on writing a short summary about an article called Is
it fair that Shakespeare overshadows Cervantes? Where the personal point of
view, based on the reading, is exposed.
¿IS IT FAIR FOR SHAKESPEARE TO OVERSHADOW CERVANTES?

To answer this question, the first thing we must do is go to the story. Let's
remember that both writers have marked a milestone in writing because it was
thought that both writers had died on April 23rd; this date became the world book
day, both Shakespeare and Cervantes have been very relevant in writing because
it is important to highlight that both works have been translated into more than 100
languages.

It is not a question of which is better, it is simply a matter of recognizing that they

are writers whose modality was different, for that reason Shakespeare is a little
more popular since his works contain dramas and we all know that drama is more
attractive for a cinematographic production and for this era of modernity in general,
that is why we feel more affinity with Shakespeare since in one way or another we
have observed some of his dramas in the cinema.

However, when Cervantes is presented today, it is done in a somewhat solemn but

old-fashioned way, we see it as something old and therefore boring, people have
reached a consensus that Cervantes is difficult to read because his work Don
Quijote has many footnotes, which makes the reader feel tired quickly.

Talking about the affinity people have with Cervantes, a survey has been carried
out in 2015 in Spain where only 2 out of 10 adults have read Don Quijote in its
entirety and of these only half managed to recognize the main character. From my
point of view, both should be given the same relevance because both have been
great characters who have contributed to the world of literature and language.

sometimes considered the most difficult aspect when learning a new language.
