Commercial jingle jangle

Choose anything you want to sell or promote. With that in mind, create a jingle (minimum of 8
measures and 3 different articulations and dynamic markings) to promote your product. If
you would like, please add lyrics to your jingle as well. A jingle is a short song that is used in
commercials to make the commercial more interesting. For example, if you hear “Da Da Da Da
Da I'm lovin it” you know that this commercial is for McDonald's. Or if you hear the drum beats
as the lights in the movie theatre get dim, you know that movie is about to start because you’ve
heard the 20th Century Fox song for the billionth time already. Here are some more examples.
Choose at least 2 to listen to.

*GOLD AND BLUE BAND: You can ONLY use notes from CONCERT Bb Scale.
Bb instruments: C, D, E, etc // Eb instruments: G, A, B, etc // C instruments: Bb, C, D, etc //
(unless you add in your accidentals) Choose 5 notes first. If you want to add more notes, you can
but it is not a requirement.
*ORCHESTRA: You can ONLY use notes from D MAJOR SCALE. D, E, F#, G, etc (unless
you add in your accidentals) Choose 5 notes first. If you want to add more notes, you can but it is
not a requirement

Step 1: Draw in your clef

Step 2: Write in your key signature (concert Bb or D depending on the
ensemble)
Step 3: Write your time signature (you can choose)
Step 4: It may be overwhelming not knowing where to start. Here are some of
the questions you should ask yourself before you even think about writing a melody. This part
needs to be complete in order for you to get full credit. Please write in full sentences.

● What is your product: ____________________________________________________

● Top 3 characteristics you want the buyers to think of when they see your product:
________________________________________________________________________
● Do you want the song to sound bright and light or dark and heavy? (Depending on the
characteristics you’ve chosen): ___________________________________________

● Which two examples did you listen to and how did it inspire you?

________________________________________________________________________

● What 5 notes of the scale will you use? :

________________________________________________________________________

● Do you have a pattern (repeated notes or rhythm) going on in this jingle?:

________________________________________________________________________

● What articulations are you using? (Use at least 3):

(Word Bank: staccato, legato, accent, tenuto)
________________________________________________________________________

● What dynamic markings are you using? (Use at least 3):

(Word Bank: pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, crescendo, decrescendo)
________________________________________________________________________
Step 5: Get composing!

Couple tips before you go:

1. You want the buyer to walk away by singing the song. How? Keep the tune simple and
repetitive. It will keep the people singing and remembering the melody and rhythm.
2. Try singing or playing a couple notes on your instrument first before you write it out.
You’ll be surprised at how well your ears are trained to distinguish which melody sounds
odd or good.
3. Listen to the examples I have given you and get inspired!
