A reflection about Global Entrepreneurship Week Seminar

The seminar held last 17th of November 2018 (Saturday) at Far

Eastern University, Main Auditorium that was entitled as “Global

Entrepreneurship Week Philippines 2018” – the celebration of

innovators who dream big and turn dreams into reality through

launching startups or businesses. It talks about the field of

entrepreneurship and business world. Previously, I have heard several

times and I have learned little bit regarding this field, but I do not know

the real experiences of people who are involved in this kind of career.

In the seminar, we have met our speakers which also to be Filipino

entrepreneurs. Those succeeded people are Mr. Euclid Cezar, the

Famous Belgian Waffles’ CEO and founder; Mr. Robertson Sy Tan,

Blade Auto Center founder and owner; Mr. Karl Jude Boo, he is the head

chef and founder of the Six Pack Chef restaurant; next is Mr. RJ

Ledesma, co-founder of Mercato Centrale Philippines; and lastly,

Kristina Lopez-Reyes is the founder of the Messy Bessy Cleaners

Incorporated. These people have shared their own stories before they

became successful entrepreneurs or innovators. After this event, one

of the thoughts I gained – success cannot be easily get just in an

instant. As they always say, it takes patience and perseverance before

we earn the fruit of labor.

We all know that acquiring and setting up business is hard because

it need a lot of time to conceptualize the products or services to be

offer in community and especially it needed a lot of money to be

possible. Nevertheless, this rational was opposed to one of the

speakers, according to Tan (2018), before delving into

entrepreneurship, the right mindset should be created – a mindset that

aims to succeed and achieve goals beyond one’s benefit and others

benefit. Probably, it means that you should have the dedication to

make your dreams into reality with plans and strategies. I had realized

that when someone who succeeded today have failed many times

before and it is part of being an entrepreneur. Ledesma gave an

adage, “Fail fast, learn fast” (Ledesma, 2018). This adage means when

we failed, we stand up and learn quickly. In addition, it employs that

we should not be afraid to fail because failing teaches us to become

more firm and steadfast.

In their talks, I felt their happiness and contentment of their

success and willingness to share what they have, to aspire youth in

building dreams and to

extend their hands to students like me who dreams of making a

difference in my own life and for others too. Therefore, I feel blessed

because I grabbed this opportunity to be not well equipped but to

become knowledgeable and educated on the steps should I take if I

aspires an entrepreneur or innovator someday.
