Journal

Within the past two weeks, I was able to accomplish quite a bit. I learned a great deal about my

strengths and some weaknesses. I completed controls 1,2 and 3, introduction and background. I

elevated all parts of my paper and edited them myself. Afterwards, I had an adult review my paper

and provide me with feedback. I used all her suggestions to elevate my paper and change some

sentences. Having feedback from someone else was very beneficial because I was able to see new

ways to look at my topic. I am currently waiting for a leadership student to edit my paper as well. I

also plan on sending my paper to my advisor and possibly having another leadership student edit it

after I make edits based on the first peer review. I also want to focus on incorporating more

information into my paper. Recently, I added several statistics or cases in which implicit bias

occurred to help emphasize the importance of stopping bias. I am looking forward to completing my

paper as I am proud of the work that I have done and feel it is an accurate representation of my

understanding. Lastly, I want to continue reading new articles and find more information to further

my research.

Why
I enrolled in Independent Research because I want to improve my writing and my researching skills.

I am hoping to better prepare myself for future colleges and workplaces. Wanting experience with

advisors and better my communication between adults, this is course is the best fit for me. This

course has already provided me with several skills such as organization, formatting, and annotating

skills.
