NAME OF CENTER: ST. ROSES HIGH SCHOOL

SUBJECT: COMMUNICATION STUDIES
GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Teenage pregnancy and Adolescent Pregnancy are used interchangeably. It can be

defined as the pregnancy that occur in a female under the age of 20. Consequences include:

school dropout and increased use of alcohol.

The theme of this School Based Assessment is Teenage Pregnancy as stated above. The

main reason for choosing this theme, is simply because the researcher is intrigued to know the

causes and to formulate solutions based on the issue. The main aim of the School Based

Assessment is to determine the major factors that contribute to Teenage Pregnancy.

The exposition aspect of this of the SBA deals with conducting a research and presenting

same. On the other hand, for the reflection aspect an original piece in the form of a poem will be

constructed. The theme identified is related to the researcher’s academic interest. It has some

relation to Social-Studies and the researcher studied Social Studies in his past academic venture.

It is safe to say that Social Studies and the theme are both based on the study of people and

society. Thus, the area of study sparks an interest.

The researcher would like to be involved in politics. Studying this theme will allow him

to formulate policies/laws that will minimize teenage pregnancy and its causes. Personally, the

researcher has a soft spot for young girls who are pregnant. Therefore, he would like to explore

ways in which he could help these individuals. In conclusion, the researcher do hope the

reader(s) do find interest in the SBA.

PREFACE.

The name of the poem that will be constructed by the researcher is entitled ‘from

breakdown in the family to Teenage Pregnancy.’ The original piece will center its focus on at

least one major cause and effect of teenage pregnancy. The poem illustrates how teenage females

are left without a father and as a result she becomes pregnant. It further states that the family is

built on love and respect and if it collapses society will go with it.

The poem aims to capture adolescent, both male and female between the ages of 13-19.

This is so, because it is obviously this age group that will experience Teenage Pregnancy and its

effects. The author also hopes that the poem taps into the consciousness of these young people,

so that they may be able to deter from such atrocious behavior. The writer also hopes to attract

parents so that they can be somewhat edified about this issue. In turn, they will be able to

formulate solutions so that they could aid in the mitigation of the causes of teenage pregnancy.

The poem speaks about a girl(s) that is a part of a dysfunctional family and as a result

society falls with it because the family is the pillar/foundation of society. The poem further states

that the girl’s father is absent and therefore he is not there to nurture her and give her affection.

She then looks to males out in in society who are referred to as ‘wolves’ to give her the love that

she missed during her early life. The males then takes advantage of the vulnerable female and

impregnate her and then retracts from his responsibility. This poem is suitable to be aired on

social media and the television. Since these communication mediums attract massive amounts of

young individuals.
Dear miss this is my preface I had to do over to show to you, but unfortunately that was

when the pandemic struck. Thank your

ORIGIONAL PIECE

‘FROM BREAK DOWN IN THE FAMILY TO TEENAGE PREGNANCY’

1. The family is the foundation of society

Its pillars are built with love, understanding, loyalty and respect
When these pillars fall the foundation crumbles
It is inevitable that if the foundation crumbles, society will tumble

2. When the family is no longer together

The absence of the father is a serious matter
To girl, a father’s love is the greatest love of all
He is her hero, and she is daddy’s little girl

3. with the absence of the father

Teenage girls feel abandoned and alone
They become vulnerable to the wolves out there
Who mistakenly make them feel like they really care

4. In trying to fill the vacuum left by the father

Teenage girls get involved with the opposite sex too soon
The end result is clear for all to see
A breakdown in the family can cause teenage pregnancy
