2019 PART A BAR COURSE – REGISTRATION GUIDE AND FORM

SILE will accept registrations for the 2019 Part A Bar Course from now until 5pm on Friday 30
November 2018.

A. Read this Registration Guide carefully.

B. Fill in the Registration Form found on the last page of this Guide.

C. Submit the Registration Form to SILE along with your payment by 5pm on Friday 30 November
2018.

D. SILE will notify you of the registration outcome by 5pm on Friday 14 December 2018.

E. Email parta2019s1@sile.edu.sg for clarifications on the registration process.

Information on the Course Schedule

1. There are currently 5 Seminar Groups (SGs) planned for the 2019 Part A Bar Course. The
indicative course schedules for the 5 SGs are set out at pages 3 and 4 of this Guide.

2. There are 5 seminars for each of the 5 examinable subjects. In total, there will be 25 seminars
for each SG.

3. The duration of each seminar is 90 minutes, with the start and end time falling within the 2-
hour period listed in the indicative course schedules.

4. Some SGs may have seminars conducted at different venues on the same day, and require you
to travel between the venues. The required travelling time has been factored in when planning
the schedules.

5. You will attend the 25 seminars for the SG which you have been assigned.

Selection and Allocation of Seminar Groups

6. You must indicate on the registration form your choice of Seminar Group (SG) in order of your
preference.

7. SILE will endeavour to assign you an SG having regard to your preference indicated on the form.
If a particular SG is over-subscribed, the allocation of candidates for that SG will be done by
balloting.

8. You are strongly encouraged to indicate at least 3 choices of SGs. (Even then, there is no
guarantee that you will be assigned one of the SGs of your choices, especially if they are the
most popular SGs.) You may select and rank all 5 SGs in order of your preference, but DO NOT
indicate any SG for which you absolutely cannot attend. If you are assigned any SG which you
have chosen (even if it is e.g. the 5th choice), you will not be able to change it or withdraw
from it.
9. Listing more choices may give you a higher chance of getting a place in the Course. If you only
indicate 1 or 2 choices, and you are balloted out of your choice(s), you will not be assigned any
SG. Your registration will be unsuccessful and any course fee paid will be returned to you.

10. Once you have been assigned an SG which is one of your indicated choices, the allocation is final
and the course fee paid is non-refundable. You are not allowed to switch SGs or attend the
seminars of the other SGs.

11. The final course schedule, and information such as the exact venues and timings, will be
provided to course candidates 2 weeks before the commencement of the Course.

12. SILE reserves the right to discontinue any SG which is under-subscribed.

Important Notes and Rules

13. Candidates who did not register for the Course must not attend the seminars.

14. You can only attend the seminars for your assigned SG. You are not allowed to swop seminars
with another candidate, or attend the seminars of another SG.

15. There are no make-up seminars if you are unable to attend due to work or Relevant Legal
Training/Practice/Work (RLT) or other personal commitments.

16. If you are unwell and cannot attend a seminar, you must send SILE a valid medical certificate by
the following business day. SILE may, but is not obliged to, arrange for you to attend a make-up
seminar with another SG, subject to availability. It is in SILE’s absolute discretion whether to
make such an arrangement, and not an entitlement of the course candidates.

17. You MUST NOT under any circumstances attend the seminar of any other SG without SILE’s
prior written consent.

18. There may be other changes to the course schedule which may arise due to the facilitators’
work requirements. These changes will be brought to the affected candidates’ attention (such
as through a notice in the learning management system, SILE Campus) as soon as practicable.

19. There is no refund of the course fee if you withdraw or discontinue from the Bar Course or the
Bar Exams for any reason (for example, you do not meet the criteria to be a Qualified Person,
or if do not obtain any requisite Ministerial exemption). Please take this into consideration
before you register for the Course.

20. Candidates are reminded that the Part A Bar Course is optional. If you are unable to plan your
work or RLT schedule to attend the Course, please do not register for it.

21. Disciplinary action will be taken against candidates found violating any of the rules in this Guide.
Candidates found in breach of any rule may barred be from sitting for the Examinations.

22. SILE reserves the right to amend the rules or impose additional rules for the conduct of the
Course.
