The estimated population of Derry City And Strabane Local Government District at 30 June
2018 was 150,679, of which 74,055 (49.1%) were male and 76,624 (50.9%) were female.
Derry has suffered the highest unemployment of any UK city for years - with a current rate
more than twice the Northern Irish average (7.9% versus 3.8%). This is due to the constant
growth of population which has risen by 2.2% within the last decade.

Within the city there is a population of 150 680 with 21.8% aged 0 – 15yrs, 11.7% aged 16 –
24yrs, 25.5% aged 25 – 44, 26.1 % aged 45 – 65yrs and 14.9% aged 65+.

Derry is known for its catholic protestant divide with an estimated 72% catholic , 25.4%
protestant and other Christian and 2.4% other.
