TEST 2: EEE 228
12th DEC 2018 (12.00‐1.00 PM)
1. a) By using the Fourier Transform properties, show that
1 1
𝑥 𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜔 𝑡 ⇔ 𝑋 𝜔 𝜔 𝑋 𝜔 𝜔
2 2
b) By using the Fourier Transform table, find the Fourier Transform of
𝑓 𝑡 6𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑐 0.5𝑡
Solution:
a) Using Euler’s formula:
1
𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜔 𝑒 𝑒
2
By using freq shifting property and the linear property,
1 1
𝐹 𝑥 𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜔 𝑡 𝐹 𝑥 𝑡 𝑒 𝑥 𝑡 𝑒
2 2
1 1
𝑋 𝜔 𝜔 𝑋 𝜔 𝜔
2 2
Hence
1 1
𝑥 𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜔 𝑡 ⇔ 𝑋 𝜔 𝜔 𝑋 𝜔 𝜔
2 2
2. Determine the Nyquist sampling rate and the Nyquist sampling interval for the signal:
sinc(100πt) + 3 sinc2 (60πt)
Solution:
sinc(100πt) + 3 sinc2 (60πt)⇔ 0.01 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡 ∆
The Bw of the two signals are 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
The highest one is 60 Hz. Hence,
Nyquist sampling rate= 2*60 Hz= 120 Hz.
