Formidable (Co-Producer/liner Notes)
Formidable (Co-Producer/liner Notes)
The Formidable recording project began in 2001 when Stephan Peiffer visited
Don Glanden at The University of the Arts with a box of almost seventy reels of tape.
They represented more than twenty years of his father’s recorded legacy. Thus began Don
and Stephan’s collaboration on one of the defining documents of Bernard Peiffer’s career.
Of the great 20th century jazz piano virtuosos, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Phineas
Newborn, and Bernard Peiffer, only Peiffer’s music remains relatively unknown to the
jazz community. With the release of Formidable in 2006, Peiffer’s brilliant playing can
be rediscovered by a new generation serious jazz listeners.
