from musicians, educators, and the jazz press.

FROM THE LINER NOTES

… five young and talented musicians present their take on the great traditions of jazz
piano. Each of the pianists on this disc plays with authority, originality, and great spirit.
URI CAINE

“[They] all are very, very, accomplished and all play with concept, taste, and passion.
They are all to different degrees on the way to coming up with a style of their own, or
reinterpreting an older style in a fresh way.”
MATTHEW SHIPP

“Each pianist on this recording has his own vibe and individual sound. The jazz piano
playing demonstrated here represents a higher level than I’ve heard emerge from most
any other university program.”
MIKE GARSON

REVIEWS

“With the exception of Brown’s “Free #2,” the repertoire is comprised of standards,
but these renditions (solos and trios) are never predictable … It would not be surprising if
each of these five pianists enjoy a productive and memorable career.”
Jazz Times
“Conceptually, they are very advanced and imaginative, at the cutting edge, true to
the intent of the music, and consistent in their playing. Each and every one of them is an
emerging talent whose development we can look forward to with anticipation.”
All about Jazz

“Jazz Piano at Uarts is a showcase for five exceptionally talented students from the
renowned Philadelphia music school … These five young men play with determination
and inventiveness … Jazz Piano at UArts serves as reassurance that the future of piano
jazz is in good hands.”
