Task A4 | D

 esign brief
🔎 What?

❗Why?

Develop a design brief, which presents  You have to make a decision at this point in the project: What will you design and
the analysis of relevant research.  create, for whom and why. You want your decision to be based on sufficient
background research.

⚙ How?
Research results summary
● Present the main results of your research (from A2) in a concise list of bullet points. This must be in your own words!
● Illustrate your take-aways with imagery wherever you feel this reduces the amount of writing needed. However, don’t
add images for the sake of adding images. Cite any images that you use.
● Cite (in-text) from the sources that you found your answers from. Use the proper MLA format.

DEFINITIONS  By consulting sources, I have found out:

● Fabrics are the Cloth produced by weaving or knitting textile
fibres.
● Textiles are a type of cloth or woven fabric.
●

manufacturing  By consulting sources about manufacturing cotton, I have

found out:
1. The cotton textiles are produced through two processes, they are
the spinning process and the weaving process.
The spinning process is mixing and blowing, carding, Sliver lap former,
combing, drawing, roving, spinning and winding.
The weaving process is Warping, Sizing, Drawing-in, Weaving,
Inspection, Packing and product.

2. The dominant process in the assembly of garments is sewing. Some

mentionable alternative methods of fabric joining are fusing, welding,
adhesives and moulding.

TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS FOR  By consulting sources such as, I have found out the
MAKING  following information that I can use for designing and
creating my product:

How to draw a sewing pattern:
Take the measurements first in order to make the patterns accurate.
Then plot the length of the pattern and “draw horizontal lines to mark
the shoulder, bust, waist, and hip line.” (wikihow). Next connecting the
bust or chest, waist, and hip measurements. At last draw the neckline
and shoulder.

The key feature of the good pattern:

“The accurate profile should be in the first fit sample of the collection.”
sewport. The pattern should be fit, it should reflect how, why and who
will use this garment. Otherwise, significant changes will have to be
made.
Materials and tools I need:
1. Machine Needles
2. Seam Unpicker
3. Extra Sewing Feet
4. Snap fastener
5. Hole punch
6. Needles
7. Buttons
8. Treads
9. Velcro
10. Seam rippers
11. Sewing machine
12. Fabric glue

CLIENT INFORMATION  By consulting sources such as, I have realized the following considerations should
be taken into account when designing and creating my product:
1. The phone charger is for the people who need to charge frequently
but the charging cable is not long enough.

2. The product is designed for the students because they use the
phone a lot. It can keep the cord and charger in one place,
preventing the cord from tangling to the floor.

3. I plan to make the phone charger holder be white and yellow and
the handle is green, it can make my product more bright so it can
attract more customers( young student). The phone charger holder
should be very soft that it can protect the phone well.

PRACTICAL SKILLS  By completing the practical skills tasks, I have learned the
following skills (list & explain):
● I learn how to sew a button.
● I learn how to do a finish nod
● Backstitch
● Overstitch
● Do a running nod
● I learn how to punch a hole.
● How to braid
● Make a felt bookmark

I learn and I know how to sew a button, and I will also sew a button
on my phone charger holder. The finishing nod, backstitch,
overstitch and a running not will all used when I sewing my product.
I will punch a hole and put sew my button on the phone charger
holder. I understand how to make a bookmark and I make a
bookmark in the class.

The skills that will be useful for my project are (list & explain why):
● Backstitch.
● I learn how to sew a button.
● I learn how to punch a hole.
I will use a back stitch in my project because backstitch can make
the s titches not show on the right side of the project.
I plan to sew a button on the phone charger holder in order to make
my project more beautiful and more interesting.

The skills that I still need to practice or want to learn more about are
(list & explain):
● French Knot
I think the french knot is very difficult because once the working
thread is knotted, it's hard to get even a simple slip knot out,
because of the wraps, so the whole thread has to be cut and
sometimes the knot is too small and tight.

Project commitment
● State what type of product you are going to develop in your project in this unit and outline the direct practical purpose
of this product.
● Outline the bigger picture purpose of the product.
● Describe the client or target audience for whom you will develop the product.

Product and Purpose   In this project, I will create a phone charger holder. The purpose of
my product is to keep the cord and charger in one place, preventing
the cord from dangling to the floor.

Design Goal  My phone charger holder is made from an old small t shirt. I plan to
make it became something useful and sustainable, It is very
important to me because it can help the environment a lot, there was
16 million tons of clothes every years and every single t shirt need
2,700 liters water.

Intended   My product is for the young people such as students and the colour
Target audience
and exterior is what they like.

Target audience representative  My product is for people who need to often charge their phone and
dont have long enough charging cable. The phone charger holder is
soft while protect the phone well. The cotton can prevents static
electricity, so it’s more safe.
