The Perceptions of Junior High School Students about Sex Education

Chapter 1

Introduction
I. Background of the Study
Sex Education is the instruction that focuses on topics of human sexuality,
including sexually transmitted diseases, human reproduction, and anatomy of the
sexual organs. School sex education is important, yet most of us learn little of what
we know about sex from our schooling. We learn it from friends, from family, and,
increasingly, from the media.
In this generation, the perceptions of most teenagers towards sexual issues
are said to be very shallow since many of the teenagers are engaging in premarital
sex without knowing its consequences and possible outcomes. Lack of
understanding from the prevalent issue and lack of guidance from parents or
families.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
In the recent time of this generation, unintended pregnancies occur at an early
age and the context of having sex is lowered down. Also, Adolescents face daunting
and disturbing reproductive and sexual health problem. Unprotected and Unsafe sex
due to lack of knowledge regarding Sex Education could possibly result of having
Human Immunodeficiency (HIV) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
School, Governments and even in our own homes. Sex, is such a big deal to talk
about and because of this, the sexual awareness among youth decreased and never
been promoted ever since.

II. Research Questions
1. Have you ever heard about the implementation of Sex Education in the
Philippines?
2. Do you think the school must promote Sex Education to be one of their subjects?
Why?
3. In your own opinion, do you think considering the implementation of Sex
Education would change a thing to avoid the several sexual health issues in the
Philippines?
4. What is the proper grade level should sex education begin? Why?
5. Will you feel comfortable if the lessons will be taught by the teachers?
III. Assumptions/Hypothesis (If applicable)
1. The perceptions of some professional teachers would be negative.
2. People will understand the advantage of implementing Sex Educ.

V. Scope and Delimitations
This study focused to the perceptions of Junior High School students
regarding the implementation of “Sex Education” in each and every respective
schools in the Philippines.

It involved 1 Section with – girls and – boys student.


VI. Significance of the Study
The importance of the study is to use Sex Education as an instrument to
make us, especially the youth to have a broad idea regarding Sex. This study also
determines the extent key concepts were emphasized in selected junior high school
students’, based on their perceptions and knowledge. Sex Education is designed to
help young people gain the information, skills and motivation to make right decisions
about sex and sexuality throughout their existence.
