2. Pile Group Settlement
As shown from problem 4.4.1, toe resistance/ side resistance = 24.3/271.8 = 8.9%. So the piles
are considered as friction piles. Figure 9.62 b) should be chosen for the settlement calculations.
Divide the soil profile under the assumed loading plane into layers of 10 ft. thick as shown in the
following figure.
The settlement of each layer is calculated using the following equation (p + po < pc ),
