ROLE MODEL

Role model can be defined as a someone who inspires others to imitate his or her
good behavior. Many people have their own role model or people to look up to in
their life which is it can be athletes, actress, or anyone. The person that I adore is
Yunalis Mat Zara’ai or be known as Yuna. Yuna was born in Kedah, Malaysia. Her
father is a legal advisor and her mother is a chemistry teacher. She has a bachelor
degree in legal studies. Yuna started writing her own songs when she was just 14
years old, she learned guitar and her first performance was at the age of 19. She had
performed in various events and shows prior to giving audition for the show “One in
a million”, Malaysia’s own version of American Idol. She made it to the top 40,
before being eliminated. Yet, she tried her best to be the best among the idols.

She was contacted by a US based indie-pop record label and management

company. She signed a deal with Fader label, a record label based in New York. She
has worked with stars like Pharrell Williams, her single “Live Your Life” was in fact
produced by him. She became one of the few artist from Malaysia to achieve such
success in America. The official music video was released a month later. She got
critical acclaim from critics like Billboard, NPR, NY times, Elle and others. Now, she is
one of the biggest music stars in Malaysia.

I adore her because she is hard working. Yuna is not only a successful artist, but she
is also a successful entrepreneur. She is founder of women’s boutique. November
Culture, which is an online clothing line. Her boutique sells clothes that are made
modest and aligned to her faith. Yuna is passionate about culture, which she
embodies in her clothing line, she wants to show case her culture and tradition to
the world. Yuna motivated me to get involve with business and try to expand it. This
can be related to the entrepreneur of decisional roles, as an entrepreneur, she
initiates projects that capitalize on opportunities that have been identified. This may
involve developing new products in her business. Yuna is capable in manage her
business, while her schedule is pack with her song’s recording, concert and meetings.

In spite of all those critical acclaim, she gets attention from the International media
as a pop star wearing a Hijab. She considers herself as a Muslim singer songwriter
who follows Islam. She believes everyone has their own beliefs and way of doing
things. She talks about how people were not used to the idea of Muslim pop star,
and how people were calling her the “Poster Girl” for new generation of Malaysian
women. She wants her music to be the talking point, not her hijab. Her combination
of Muslim head scarf and jeans has made her an icon for teenage Muslim girls. She is
a musician and a cultural force which can remove stereotypes about Muslims and
Islam as  a religion.

Even though, Yuna is engage and involve with International music industries, she still
keep her hijab on and not turning into someone that against her religion. I love her
because she being a positive person that inspire for today girls. She teach girls to be
who they are, if they are wearing scarfs or muslim cloths that doesn’t affect their
popularity, success and wealth.I know previously most girls thought they need to be
more westernized or wear certain type of cloths to be more famous. This lady teach
these teenager girls that the cloths should not be factor of your success and
failure. For young Muslims, especially girls, Yuna is a role model, a young successful
woman who is also a practicing Muslim. Her personality is the biggest reason I
choose her as role model. She has her own unique and creative style when it comes
to her music, fashion and taste. According to Weber’s believed in Bureaucratic
Management, Yuna can categorized by Charismatic authority. It is because of her
special personal qualities associated with certain social reformers. She has great
personalities that influence other people to become like her. She sets the trend
when it comes to music, fashion or taste of fragrance. She is confident, trendy,
individualistic and full of attitude. Her desire to chase after her dream inspires all and
is seen as a good role model for today’s youth.

Yuna Zarai is an inspirational role model to us all. The 29-year-old Malaysian singer
has given some beautiful words of encouragement to those who reached out to her
for life advice. Most of them are about insecurities, bullying, and rejection. I am also
her biggest fan which is, I followed her on twitter and instagram. I love how she is so
humble and communicate so nicely with her fans and media. Yuna is just being
herself and people actually love to see lady who are so mature and well-educated .In
one of her social media, especially twitter, people keep asking her on how to be
confident and remove the feeling of being insecure. In her long and touching note,
she mentioned that everyone is brought to this world for a reason, telling her fans to
never give up, and that they are special. She also emphasised education as a way for
them to make the world a better place. My favourite quote from her is “If you are
already in engineering school, law school, art school.. you are already on your way to
serve a purpose to the world. That’s why you need to study. That should be your
drive. So go and SOAR and be the best, and go make a difference in the world.
Because my sweet young ones, YOU ARE THE FUTURE LEADERS!” define her positive
vibe.
The moment she was being judged from her own country Love how this woman try
to remain positive in face of her life challenges. She also try to respect people
around her and always keep smiling and laughing and of course sharing it on
internet. Upon seeing her navigate through life it teaches a lot of young girls about
patience and love. I will continue adore her as my role model since I am also her
biggest fans from standard four. One of my passion is I want to be positive like she
always be from she was nothing and now, she is extraordinary woman I’ve ever
known.
