Lesson Plan for Super Starfish Friend (lesson title)

Target Audience: Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade

Learning Objective(s)/Competency
Students will: Be able to describe qualities of a good friend.

Students will: Write and draw 4 qualities of a good friend on their Super Starfish Friend

Materials:
- Super Starfish Friend template
- Writing and coloring tools (pencils, crayons)
- Scissors and tape

Procedure: Describe how you will:
Introduce: Introduce yourself to the group and allow each student to share their
name. Proceed to introduce group norms and the purpose of the group;
to create and maintain friendships by becoming a Super Starfish Friend!
Communicate Read student objectives with students. Allow them a moment to turn &
Lesson Objective: talk with a partner to share what they will be doing using their own
words. Call a student to share aloud.
Teach Content: Begin discussion about what makes a good friend. Ask students “Who do
you know that is a good friend? What makes them so great to be
around?”
Allow time for group brainstorm and discussion.
Practice Content: Have students decide on their top 5 good friend quality and write/draw
them on each arm of the Super Starfish Friend template.
Summarize: Have each student share-out their final product.

Close: Debrief discussion: When are times that you think you can practice
showing these qualities at school this week?

 Discipline (describe): This lesson supports student understanding how to appropriately


interact with their peers. It allows them to practice these friend qualities in role playing and
will progress to focusing on specific behaviors throughout the unit. By understanding and
practicing appropriate behaviors with peers, there will be a decrease in discipline rates.
