ap | AARAERGE mera THE OFFICIAL BULLETIN OF LEO CLUB OF NAWALA METRO December Elion www.nmleos.org Ralaporoththuwa Balaporottuwa was a breast cancer awareness program which was organized by MAS holdings with Leo Club of Colombo Knights and Jointly organized with Leo club of Nawala Metro held on 02nd November 2019 at St. Michael & All Angels’ Church, Willorawatte. The main objective of this project was to create awareness about the breast cancer as well as to give knowledge to the community to identify whether they have symptoms of breast cancer, to minimize these diseases and how to prevent them. To carry the baton forward, new blood should enter the arena. When they enter this stream, they are usually skeptical, curios and nervous. That's where orientation programmes come in handy. On 02nd November, we carried-out such an orientation to some new faces, at Attrex Academy, Wijerama. What Leo is, w! _v why they should join Leo, what's re some of the points taken in to ne day, these new ones, will carry-out an orientation programme to another set of youth. he river flows continuously... Let them BLOOM... If you need to understand the ephemeral »> nature of life, you may not need to visit the ™ temple or the church. Just visit the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama. Cancer is a disease which can take you down financially, physically and mentally. It can rip your whole world apart. It can take away your smile, your beauty, your job and YOUR LIFE... There are more than 120 children suffering from cancer at the pediatric unit of the Apeksha Hospital. This count = varies every day. Life is so unpredictable there. Those children are in need of different items ranging from food to medicine. On 09 th November 2019, we donated them with various items including, medicine, cologne, facemasks and food items. Following that, on 23 rd of the same month, we joined the children at CCC House for an arts and crafts session. We strive to continue this work of philanthropy in future as well. If you are reading this, please visit the hospital. Do something for them. They need our help... Who knows, they might in future...’The above message is an excerpt from our October 2019 Newsletter. We had promised that we would be carrying-out the “Shilpa Saviya” project in future as well and keeping our word, this time we focussed on Lankagama Model School, Neluwa. The school is situated in a rural area where difficulties are in abundance. We were fortunate to have found such a place where help was desperately in need. On 07 th of November, we were at Lankagama Model School, delivering a seminar on Mathematics and Science for the O/L students. We are of the belief that what we do, willnever be in vain, but add advantage to the education of the children. Moreover, other than the assistance provided for the needy, there is one more important aspect to this. That is, we too learn about the lives of others ; we also become sensitive towards how the other half lives. That articular education, makes us humble. We learn more from them, than they learn from us. I'll make it simple here...
