Introduction
My projects gole is to measure if there is a correlation between hours of video games played by
an individual and their grade average. Hypothesis: if an individual plays more hours of video
games then their grade will be higher. I predict the correlation will be weak with a r of .382. I
collected data by interviewing an individual's quarter 1 grade average and the total time spent
playing video games per week. I gathered my data by interviewing students at DuBois Area
High School.
Population:
The entire group of individuals being studied
Sample:
A part of a population that we collect data from
Variable:
Any characteristics of an individual's
Response variable
A variable whose value depends on that of another.
Correlation:
The direction and strength of a relationship.
My correlation is 0 the direction is positive the strength is weak and is not valid.
If a person would have ten hours of gameplay per week there predicted grade would be
90.206%
y = 0.010(10) + 90.106
y = 0.100 + 90.106
y = 90.206
Lurking Variables:
A variable that has an effect on the relations among variables in a study but is not one of the
explanatory variables studied.
Hypothesis: if an individual plays more hours of video games then their grade will be higher.
My Hypothesis was incorrect, the correlation was 0 and strength was 0.
