ATENEO FIESTA MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Ateneo Fiesta Band and Vocal Showdown


GENERAL GUIDELINES

The Competition
1. “Ateneo Music Festival” shall be carried out as part of the Non-Sports Events of the
Ateneo Fiesta 2017.
2. The contest shall comprise of groups showcasing their skills in music, particularly in the
playing of instruments while singing as a band.

Qualification and Registration of Participants


3. Each participating Academic Organization (AO)/Unit is allowed to field in one (1) team
composing of not less than three (3) but not more than six (6) participants. Members of
the team must be bona fide students or members faculty and staff for the 2nd Semester of
School Year 2017-2018.
4. Only registered participants shall be allowed to participate in the contest. No walk-in
participants may be allowed. Each participating AO/Unit may also register one (1) faculty-
coach for the competition.
5. The participating AOs/Units must submit the following via e-mail:
a. Duly accomplished entry form for the team
b. Scanned copy of valid ID Cards of each participant and faculty-coach
c. Scanned Copy of Validated Form (for students), Employment Certificate (for
faculty and staff), or Certification from the Alumni Relations Office (for alumni) or
Parents’ Council (for parents).
6. Registration requirements shall be submitted no later than 12:00 PM of November 23,
2017. No entries will be accepted later than the said date and time.

CONTEST GUIDELINES

Conduct of Competition
7. The band will perform only one song. While the choice and genre will be up to the band,
the song must be relevant to the theme for this year’s Ateneo Fiesta, “BUENAS! Fiesta
Atenista!”. Songs may be mashed-up or medley.
8. The whole performance must last for at least three (3) minutes but must not to exceed
five (5) minutes.
9. The whole performance, inclusive of the song and attire, should not contain vulgarities,
profanities, lewd comments, racist remarks, violence, sexual content, and etc.
10. In cases where multiple bands submitted the same song, the band who submitted first
shall have the privilege of performing the song and the latter shall simply choose another
song.
11. Aside from the basic technical needs in performing (microphone, stand, etc), the only
instrument that will be provided by the organizer will be the drum set. Any other
instrument deemed needed by the respective band in their performance will already be
provided by the said band.
12. Any expenses arising from damages to the instrument provided by the organizer will be
shouldered by the performers who used the said instrument during the event.
13. The organizers will not be responsible for the damages to instruments not provided by
the organizers. As a result, every band should be responsible for their own instruments.
Criteria for Judging
14. The bands’ performance shall be judged based on the following criteria:
Vocal Accomplishment in music, quality of song, 40%
Performance contraction, expressiveness, blend, balance of
instruments, and etc.
Technical Technical expertise of the performers. 30%
Proficiency
Overall Confidence and stage presence. 20%
Performance
Audience Impact Positive response from the audience. 10%
TOTAL 100%

PANEL OF JURY
15. The competition shall have a Panel of Jury for the purpose of giving independent and
intelligent assessment during the competition.
16. The Panel of Jury shall be vested with the immediate authority to clear or answer any
protest/clarification made by the participants and/or their respective coaches. In
addition, the Panel of Jury shall have the authority to give sanctions to any participants
they have witnessed violating any provision in this GM.
17. Among are the common violations (but not limited to) with the respective sanctions
(deducted to average/final score depending on the event):
 Registration Violation: Disqualification
 Participant Violation: Three (3) points deduction for each participant below the
minimum limit or above maximum limit.
 Time Violation: Five (5) points deduction.
 Guideline Violations: Three (3) point deduction for every violation
18. Violations other than those mention above will be reviewed by the Panel of Jury and will
sanctioned when a decision has been made.
19. Protests about the said event will be brought to the Panel of Jury for clarifications.
However, when the protest is still unsettled, the Grievance Committee shall be in charge
in settling the dispute between the parties involved.

AWARDS AND PRIZES


20. Before the release of the results, an independent auditor will assess and tabulate the
scores/grades garnered by each participant. After this, the auditor will have to fill out a
form indicating the audited final scores and to be signed by the auditor, the Non-Sports
Committee Head, and Events Head for final approval.
