INTRODUCTION:
School health services promotes healthy development and well
being,helping students reach their full potential.
School health is an important branch of community health
nursing. According to modern concept health services is an
economical and powerful means of community health. A concept of
medical examination of children to the present day border concept of
comprehensive care of health and wellbeing of children throughout
the school years.
DEFINITION:
There are variety of definitions of school health programme.
According to INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE (IOM),
“A comprehensive school health is an integrated set of planned,
sequential, school affiliated strategies, activities, and services
designed to promote the optional physical, emotional, social and
educational development of students. It is coordinated by multi-
disciplinary team and is accountable to the community for program
quality and effectiveness.
OBJECTIVES OF SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES:
1. The promotion of positive health.
2. The prevention of diseases.
3. Early Diagnosis, treatment, follow up of defects.
4. Awakening health consciousness in children.
5. The provision of health full environment.
ASPECTS OF SCHOOL HEALTH:
1. Health appraisal of school children &personal.
2. Remedial measure & follow up.
3. Prevention of communicable diseases.
4. Healthful environment.
5. Nutritional services.
6. First Aid &emergency care.
7. Mental health.
8. Dental health.
9. Eye health.

ROLES OF SCHOOL HEALTH NURSE:
DEFINITION:
The National Association of Nurses defines of professional
nursing that advances the wellbeing, academic success &lifelong
achievements of students. School health nurse intervene with actual,
& potential health problem, provide case management services&
actively collaborate with others to build students & family capacity
for adaptation, self-management , self-advocacy & learning.
ROLES:
1) HEALTH PROMOTION &SPECIAL PROTECTION:
o Immunization
o Nutrition
o Health education
o Develop positive attitude towards school health.
o Healthful environment.
o Community participation.
2) EARLY DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT:
● Health appraisal
