Types of senten-WPS Office
The four main types of sentences based on their clause type are as follows:
Simple Sentence
Compound Sentence
Complex Sentence
Compound-Complex Sentence
Simple substance
This is a sentence that contains only one independent clause. There is no dependent clause in
this sentence.
Compound Sentence
A compound sentence is one that contains at least two independent clauses. that are
connected by comma and coordinating conjunction ((for, so, but, and, or, nor, yet FANBOYS)
or with a semicolon (;).
Night came on, and rain fell heavily, and we all got very well
A sentence which contains one independent clause /main or principal clause and one or more
dependent or subordinate clauses is called a complex sentence.
Although she completed her literature review, she still needed to work on her methods
section.

You need to put a comma before the coordinating conjunction and, if applicable, another
comma after the dependent clause when it occurs at the beginning of the sentence.
