ABOUT THE COMPANY
• The mormugao port trust located in goa is a premier iron ore
exporting port on the west coast of India . The port was
commissioned in 1885 and in one amongs the 12 major port of the
country . The port is mainly an iron ore port and handling large
quantum of ore exports among an Indian port.
• The mormugao port trust in its on going endeavers to considerably
improve facility and services with in the port wishes to develop a
new harbour and break water to further develop cargo handling
capacity and modernize port operations

TYPES OF LIFE SAVING APPLIANCES

Life saving appliances found abroad ships include following


• Life boats
• Life rafts
• Life jackets
• Pyrotechnics
• Line throwing apparatus
• Emergency radios
• Life buoy

1. Lifeboats

Life boats are the most basic and man dated equipment on board .It is a small rigid
and inflatable boat carried for emergency evacuation in the event of disaster abroad
a ship .
Procedure for launching
• Uncover the lifeboats
• Release the electro cable
• Screw the drain plug
• Release grips
• Release boat David stopper
• Release hand rail
• Lower the embarkation ladder

2. Life rafts
It is a small rigid or inflatable boat carried for emergency evacuation in
the event of disaster abroad a ship .
PROCEDURE FOR LAUNCHING

• Thrown container over board


• Sharply pull the rope
• Jump overboard and swim into the raft
• Help others, throwing them a life buoy of equipment set
• With knife cut the tether
• With the paddle quickly row away from the vessel

3.Lifejackets
Life jacket is a sleeveless jacket made up of buoyant or inflatable material used
to keep human body afloat in water . Two popular type of life jackets used
onboard are inflatable life life jacket this jacket need inflation for buoyancy
And it automatically inflated when immersed in water
Procedure for launching
• Button up life jackets
• Button up the side straps
• Button up zipper and klickverschluss
• Make sure that the life jackets does not rub the neck chin underarms does
not slipup when trying to pull the other person for the other persons for the
shoulder straps

4. pyrotechnics
It is the distress flares used at the time of abandoning the ship or used
in survival crafts which produces visual signals (lights or smoke signals )
to attract attention to other crafts at sea

Types of pyrotechnics available onboard ships


• Hand flares
• Rocket parachute flare
• Buoyant smoke signal

5. Line throwing apparatus
Line throwing apparatus is a self contained rocket powered line
throwing unit designed for ship to ship and ship to shore operation as
well as for the rescue of people in distress in sea

Procedure for launching


• Remove the front cover and point the desired flight direction
• Pull out safety pin
• Aim over the top of target
• Turn grip to left of right to fire

6.Emergency radios
Survival radios are radios for communication which helps ships and
ships crews during emergencies . A survival radios forms one of the
most essential parts of survival tools of marine industry . The
emergency radio is approved internationally under the global maritime
distress safety system . An emergency radio is mainly used in sending
signals to international radio channel or frequency.

7. Life buoys
These are the common life saving appliances present in all small and
large vessels they are fitted around the premier of the ships weather
deck are ment to be thrown rapidly to a person over board

A man over board is a common occurrence and these buoys provide


the fastest aid for flotation in such a case

8. IMMERSIONSUITS
Passenger ship shall carry for each life boat on the ship at least three
immersion suits which comply with the regulation in addition a thermal
protective aid must be provided for every person who is to be
accommodated in the lifeboats. Who is not provided with an immersion
suit

MAINTAINANCE AND INSPECTION
MAINTAINANCE OF LIFE SAVING APPLIANCES

The maintainance of the life saving appliances are as follows:


1. Operational readiness

2. Weekly testing and inspection

3. Monthly testing and inspections

4. Three monthly testing and inspection

5. Annual testing and inspection

6. Maintainance of fall fire

7. Periodic servicing of launching appliances and on load release gear

8. Rotational deployment of marine evacuation system
