Pondering
An antique is an object or work of art which is
rare and hence considered a collectable item.

Corner
The origin of the word ‘antique’ is from the latin
word antiquus meaning ‘old, ancient, old-fash-
ioned’. Antiques can include furniture, jewelry,

How old is an antique? art work, carpets, books, etc. As a common rule
of thumb, objects that are 100 years or older
are considered antiques.
Old objects are often slotted under one of
three categories – antiques, collectables or
vintage. However, their value is not based on
this categorisation. It is based on its demand in
the market. An antique is an object more than
100 years old, collectables are old but less than
100 years old and vintage items are those that
are less than 25 years old or have come back
into fashion.

Sam Visits Norway's Trolltunga Hike
Discover A New Place
I’m on another hike! And what you see
behind me is the view from Trolltunga!
One of the most scenic cliffs in Norway.
I’ve surprised myself again, by under-
taking this risky hike up a cliff that is
1100 metres above sea level.
Trolltunga is a cliff that juts out hori-
zontally 700 m above the river Ringed-
alsvatnet in the Odda municipality in
Hordaland County, Norway. And the
view from up here is simple breathtak-
ing! This is a long hard hike that can
only be undertaken from around mid-June to mid-September, because that is the time when
enough snow melts. My fellow hikers tell me that the cliff was formed nearly 10000 years ago, in
the ice age! How awesome is that?!
To hike here, you have to be in really good shape and you also have to be a good hiker because
this is one risky hike! No safety railings have been constructed here so as to not harm the natural
beauty, although there are some metal hooks and footholds to help climb down to the actual
rock.
If you plan to stay overnight, you have to carry your own tent and supplies. And don’t forget to
bring a compass! There are, of course, guided tours that offer relatively safe biking and hiking
activities. Best to opt for those if you’re not 100% confident.

Healthy Me Meditation
Helps!

Meditation is an important habit to start early. The most common types of medita-
tion involve concentration on breathing or movement. Yoga is a well-known move-
ment-based meditation and is great as an introduction to meditation. It involves
focus on movements and breathing and works great for beginners.

Any session of yoga always ends with a few minutes of meditation to bring the mind
into a rested state. If you feel it is not possible to find the time or space to practice
yoga or to find someone to help, another alternative is to focus on breathing-based
meditation. Don't expect to sit longer than 5-7 minutes on your first week or two of
breathing based meditation as it is not possible. It's easy to get distracted and it isn't
easy to stop the mind from wandering. Work on having short spans of concentrated
meditation rather than long periods of distracted meditation. As the saying goes, it
is quality rather than quantity.

Meditation plays an important role in bringing the mind at peace, and in turn, emo-
tions and the body follow.

einstien iyengar

On the evening of Martin’s birthday, almost

the entire class was invited. The party
was at Martin’s father’s estate so
there was plenty of space. However,
the children started to get bored
and began leaving.

Martin went to Eeshan and

said, “They are leaving. How do
I make them stay? They are
getting bored.”

7
Eeshan said, “Don’t worry. Einstein Iyengar
has a gift for you and it will make everyone
stay and enjoy!”

Eeshan set out a table in the middle of the room and wore
a long hat and a cape. Nitin was also similarly dressed and
he gathered everyone around the table. Eeshan spoke to
the group of children gathered around the table,
“How about we burn some money?”

Eeshan dipped a 10 rupee note in a liquid mixture. He held

the note in the air while Nitin lit it with a matchstick.
The note burned till the end but nothing happened
to it. Instead, it was just wet!

8
“How did you do that?”
many children asked.

Eeshan said, “The mixture was alcohol and water. When I

dipped the note in the mixture it got soaked in alcohol and
water. After burning it, the alcohol in the mixture burned
out and the water film put out the fire and didn’t let
the note burn out. What we have now
is a damp note.”

The children enjoyed the party and the trick was the talk
of the evening. Every child in the party tried the trick
so they could dazzle their parents at home. Martin
thanked Eeshan for a wonderful birthday surprise
and for saving the party!

The Mouse And The Weasel

A very thin and hungry mouse,

Into a granary stole,

Where stood a basket full of grain,

In which was a small hole.

After much squeezing he got in,

And there he ate his fill;

But when he tried to issue out,

The hole seemed smaller still.

A weasel who stood looking on,

Cried out in sneering tone,

"You can't come out, my little dear,

Until you've smaller grown.

You were half-starved when you crept in,

And now you are quite stout;

So cease to eat until you can,

As you got in, get out."

My family and I reached Kaziranga National Park to begin our family holi-
day. I was very excited to see a rhino and had been pestering my mother
to plan a holiday. We piled into a jeep to go into the
jungle to try and see some rhinos. My breath
caught in my throat as a herd appeared before us,
majestic and beautiful!

‘ceros’ meaning horn.
All rhino species can weigh up to 1000 kg.
