Finding the story inside the painting by Tracy Chevalier

According to Tracy Chevalier, in order to pay attention to a work of art, she create a
story based on it. It all started when she went to an art exhibition and couldn’t connect
with the paintings, because she was thinking about vain this all the time. And once the
exhibition was over, she didn’t blame the work, but herself.

So to change that feeling, she use a new tactic to pay attention to the painting and
connect with them: she choose a painting and stays in front of it telling herself a story
taking into account the gesture of the characters or the environment. It’s a good tactic,
because we, the humans, like to create stories all the time to help us find some
meaning in this chaotic world. In the case of Tracy, she tell us the stories that she
created from three paintings..

In conclusion, we create stories to fill information gaps, because we want to know

everything all the time. This happen with the paintings, sometimes we don’t have all
the information about it, only the painting itself and based on that, we created an
story trying to make sense of it.
