The Globe Theater was a large, round, open air

theatre in London for Shakespere plays.

Construction of the original building started in

1598. It had three stories of seating and was able

to hold up to 3,000 spectators. This is

impressive because it only had a 100 foot

diameter. The style of play that would be

presented was declared outside the theatre with

color-coded flags: red flag for a history show,

white for humor plays, and black for tragedies.

When a special effect on the stage went wrong,

the Globe Theatre burnt down in 1613. A Henry

VIII cannon was used to light the wall, and it

took under two hours for the theater to fully

demolish. The Globe Theater was rebuilt at the

same place in 1614.
