SITUATIONS AND ACTIONS AND KEEP THE SHIP CLEAN AND TIDY

Watch personnel to make regular fire patrols in areas at risk from possible fires.Ensure readily
combustible materials are stowed safely and the watch demonstrate an attitude of alertness to fire
prevention

There are many sources of fire, the major causes of fires onboard are as follows :

# Smoking : In this vessel only smoking room is designated area for smoke.

# Funnel sparks.

# During hot work ( cutting and welding).

# Galley.

# Paint lockers.

# Electrical equipment –

Inside accommodation:

 Report all switches ,leads,wires and machinery that appear or are faulty.
 Disconnect and never leave electrical equipment on after use.

Outside accommodation.

# Spontaneous Combustion - Damp /oil rags or sawdust will oxidize and produce heat & can therefore become a
possible source of ignition.So, always watch personnel make sure to stowed safely.

# Additional sources – It is also important to point out additional sources of fires like fire on helideck.During
helicopters landing on helideck ,an accident involving helicopter can result in a spillage of fuel, which can lead to a
fire .So, everybody should bear a vegilance mind on watch.

At the time of watch fire patrol should on these area ( at least) and take care of cleanliness.To
prevent the fire-keep clean and tidy the ship,bear a vegilance mind and should have commonsense.
