The rapid outbreak of the COVID-19 presents an alarming health crisis that the
world is grappling with. In addition to the human impact, there is also a
significant business change being felt globally. As viruses know no borders, the
impacts will continue to spread. Identify three types of industries in the
Philippines who were greatly affected by the Pandemic and is having difficulties in
surviving? Elaborate your answer.

Your answer
Since long distance travel and transportation is restricted in the entire country,
the tourism industry is greatly affected. This resulted to a drastic decrease of
customers and income of resorts, hotels, restaurants, museums and other businesses
that fall under the tourism industry.
Gathering of people is also not allowed because it might accelerate the spreading
of virus, and liquor ban is also implemented across the country at the same time.
These restrictions and implementations negatively impacted the bar and nightclub
industry. Businesses such as Bars, Nightclubs, Comedy bars, and Beerhouses are
forced to temporarily close because of the virus.
Shopping Mall Industry is also affected due to the pandemic. A Mall is a crowded
place, physical contact between customers and employees may cause transfer of the
virus, because of these obvious reasons, many malls are already closed, and are
expecting a huge decrease on their income.

2. Businessmen are defined by how they respond to a crisis, which as the Chinese
word for crisis suggests is the co-existence of danger and opportunity. The great
ones are those who find opportunity in the face of danger. The great ones do right
by all the stakeholders they serve: employees, customers, shareholders, suppliers
and the communities they operate in. The great ones rise to the occasion when the
moment demands it of them. Identify three businesses in the Philippines who did
great initiatives and practiced corporate social responsibility to the community
especially the frontliners and the ones affected? Elaborate your answer. (Example:
San Miguel Corporation, Coca-Cola, Shakeys) *

Your answer
ABS-CBN being the leading television and broadcast company in the Philippines
created a program called Pantawid ng Pag-ibig which raised 237 million pesos, the
project has P334 million in total cash donations and pledges. Through the donations
from the public ABS-CBN purchased food and other basic necessities that Filipino
families need.
Unilab shelled out P665 million worth of donations to pandemic response efforts.
These were delivered directly to the frontliners of more than 400 hospitals. The
donations were vitamins and medicines, protective equipment sets, alcohol, hygiene
and basic protective kits, and ventilators to COVID-19 referral hospitals.
Walang Iwanan: SMCs COVID-19 Effort is an overall corporate social
responsibility program of San Miguel Corporation. SMC has committed to grant full-
time pay to its employees and extended workforce as the ECQ/GCQ remains in effect.
The company have provided assistance of over P1 billion in the form of cash, food,
flour, disinfectant, alcohol, fuel, free toll and personal protective equipment
donations to vulnerable communities and frontliners. It has also built emergency
quarantine facilities together with the IATF.

3. Do you think not planning enough in feasibility study results to loss of profits
during a pandemic? Is there a correlation between a good feasibility study and a
pandemic? Elaborate your answer. *

Your answer
Although a pandemic is a very rare event, and it doesnt happen everyday, we must
always think of all the possibilities that may occur in the business.
For businesses that offer products, losing a customer on a regular day is also the
same with losing a customer due to pandemic, both need remedies and solution to
keep the business going. If the feasibility study is well written and properly
formulated there will always be a way to solve the negative effects of a pandemic.
A lot of businesses solved this problem by having delivery services wherein
customers will just order virtually and someone will just deliver the product to
their homes.
But the situation is different for service businesses. No matter how good your
feasibility study is, you can never create a wholesome and perfect solution to the
effect of pandemic in your business. You might be able to create a temporary
solution but it wont last long because services can never be delivered by a
delivery boy.

4. 2020 is a challenging year for business due to the global outbreak. Not only is
it impacting the lives of people around the world, it is also impacting the global
economy, and locally, it has an impact on business owners too. Assuming you're
transforming your feasibility into business. What type of business is still
strategic to implement during an outbreak? Elaborate your answer. *

Your answer
Businesses are very challenged during an outbreak. But there are businesses that
can still survive and suffer from little to no effect by the outbreak. Internet-
based businesses are the most unsusceptible, just like online selling, software
developers, virtual tutors, website creators, digital art sellers, and layout
artists.
If I were to create a business during an outbreak, I would create an internet-based
business. I would create an all-in-one-online-business. I would sell digital
art/literatures, accept lay outing requests, and create websites at the same time.
With this business I wouldnt need to have physical contact with my customers. I
wouldnt need to deliver my products/services physically, because all the
transactions can be done online, and even their payment can be sent through digital
e-wallet apps (e.g. Paymaya, GCash). I can also use the social media to promote my
business.

5. You already turned your feasibility into business during the pandemic. List down
5 practical strategies you will use in managing, promoting and controlling your
business. (Example: Enable food delivery, provide soap and hand sanitizer in-store
to promote cleanliness and offer contactless payment options like e-wallets) *

Your answer

 Free Website Troubleshooting
