Hijab Existance in Fashion Industry in The Millenial Era

Hijab in common English usage is a veil worn by some Muslim women in the
presence of any of male outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the head and
chest (Wikipedia). Hijab is an identity for muslim women. Islam requires women to wear
hijab in order to protect and glory them.

As the biggest country of muslim majority, Indonesia has a lot of moeslem citizens.
As long as the deployment

As the country of muslim majority, Indonesia has a lot of muslims citizens. But Even
Indonesia’s citizen majority is muslim, the hijab itself not originally from Indonesia. Hijab is
part of religion attribute, quoted from the book entitled Ketika Fiqih Membela Perempuan by
Prof.Dr.H. Nasaruddin Umar, MA at 42th page is written ‘according to De Vaux in Sure le
Voile des Femmes and I’Orient Ancient, the veil tradition (hijab) are not the original Arab
tradition, nor they are part of Talmud and Biblical traditions. The veil tradition was originally
part of Mesopotamian-Persian tradition in order to distinguish men and women. But as long
as the deployment of Islam in Indonesia is increasing, hijab has been being the part of
Indonesian muslim’s women.

As times goes by, Indonesian women are realizing the importance of wearing hijab,
therefore the number of woman who wearing hijab is increasing, here’s another reasons :

1. Hijab on Television and Commercials

If you turn on the television, you will easily find an advertisement which offer
products that is specially made for hijabers such as shampoo, body lotion, perfume,
cosmetics, etc. Not only on hijab product commercial, the models or actress who
starred some of the commercial are also wearing hijab for example, Inneke
Koesherawati in a Tea commercial, a model who wear hijab in the insurance
commercial, Lula Kamal in the supplement commercial, etc.

2. Entertainment industry

An artist or celebrity are sometimes chosen as a role model by some people.


So if a celebrity wear hijab, some of their fans will easily influenced by what their
role model did. Some celebrity who decided to wear hijab after they has become a
rising stars are Laudya Chintya Bella, Fenita Arie, Citra Kirana, and many more.

3. Stereotype

From the writer experience, most of Indonesian people has a stereotype that
think woman who wear hijab are religious and pious. Women who wear hijab also fit
in to the community easily and more accepted.

Besides the reasons mentioned above, what makes hijab existence in Indonesia
become stronger is the innovation at the fashion Industry. The creativity of the designers
makes them create a lot of new trends that make hijab fashion are preferred by the
community. A lot of trendy and fashionable hijab styles makes people more comfortable and
confident while wearing hijab.

In the middle of the widespread of hijab usage in Indonesia, establishing a business in


fashion hijab industry is a good business opportunity in this millennial era. As a result, a lot
of businessman launch their new fashion hijab brands to compete in this field. The rise of
online or offline stores that sells hijab products is the proof that hijab products are very
popular. The hijab products that referred to are ready to wear clothing, syar’i hijab products,
couture clothing, accesorries, exclusive hijab scarf, and many more.

The price offered by the hijab fashion product traders are very diverse and
competitive. There are those who sells with affordable price and those who sell qith high
price. The price is depends on the brand and the quality. But some of the traders sell
affordable hijab products with high quality.

The existence of hijab especially in the fashion industry and its development in
Indonesia is expected to help improve this country’s economical growth, reduce
unemployment, and make the citizens established business independently. So that Indonesian
hijab products are known not only in Indonesia but also go international.
