A Musical Story for K-3

Triangle’s First Day in the Music Room
Triangle put his striker in his backpack. He was ready for the new day; his first day in the Music Room!
What would it be like? Would there be more triangles like him? And what would the other instruments
look like?

Triangle decided to take his striker out of his backpack one more time. He was excited about this new day,
and when he was excited, he loved playing one of his songs. He let the beautiful, clear tones ring:

Now it was really time to go. He didn’t want to be late! With his striker in his backpack again, he left the
house.

There was the Music Room! Triangle started walking a bit faster. The door was
wide open, and he could walk in right away.

The teacher, Miss Glockenspiel, welcomed him. Triangle brightly answered,

And he was. Nobody else was in the room yet.

Miss Glockenspiel sang to him. Triangle looked around. He found a spot in the circle, and sat down to
watch the other instruments coming in. Miss Glockenspiel sang to each one of them, as they came in:
All the students replied in their own way. Triangle liked all the different sounds.

Finally, everybody sat in a circle. Triangle looked around. There was a whole variety of instruments. There
were some more triangles but also a lot of other instruments. Some had strikers, just like him, but not all
of them did. Beside him sat an instrument that didn’t have a striker. She looked beautiful though, with
nice and bright colours. Some instruments looked like twins; they were inseparable.

Miss Glockenspiel played a little tune to get everybody’s attention.

Then, she introduced herself.

Triangle liked how her notes could go up and down. It sounded so nice!

Miss Glockenspiel suggested that everyone take turns introducing themselves. The first
instrument that got a turn had something that looked a little bit like a striker too, except
it was made out of wood, and it had a little ball on the end. It was called a mallet, and
Triangle wondered what this instrument would sound like. He found out soon enough when she started:

She sounded sharp and clear. Next was an instrument with a mallet that looked a bit
different. He was big and round, and Triangle was impressed with his deep sound when he
introduced himself.
Now it was Triangle’s turn. What would the other instruments think about him? Triangle was a little bit
nervous, so he took a deep breath, and started:

Triangle looked at Miss Glockenspiel. She gave him an encouraging smile, which made him
want to play another song. He didn’t though, because the beautifully coloured instrument
beside him started her introduction.

Maraca, what a beautiful name, and a beautiful soft sound too! The name seemed to suit the colourful
instrument.

The twins did their introduction together.

The twins’ forceful sound seemed to really break the ice. All the instruments started
talking to each other.

Miss Glockenspiel asked everybody’s attention again.

And work they did! All the instruments, each with their own unique sound, blended nicely together. They
practiced all day long, till it sounded perfect:
That was fun! Triangle’s cheeks were red from all the hard work and excitement.

Miss Glockenspiel waved everybody good bye. Triangle put his striker in his backpack again, ready to go
home. His first day in the Music Room had been a success!
