Communication Strategy: Aarush and the assessor utilized Rapid Prompting Method (RPM)
Reading: Aarush was given the common core state standards assessment 6_1 from an online
assessment tool, EasyCBM. This is a normed referenced, curriculum-based measure.
Normative data will be reported based on the grade level of the assessment; additionally,
accuracy data and an item analysis will be reviewed. The passages, as well as the multiple
choice answers, were read aloud as an accommodation. Aarush communicated his responses
via rolled paper choices and the letter board. The results are as follows:
Based on these results, Aarush is able to interface with both literary and informational texts,
when the content is read aloud and he is able to respond with a preferred communication
system. However, this assessment was at Aarush’s frustration level, indicating that he would
benefit from structured reading instruction at a lower grade level. Additional testing would be
needed to firmly establish his instructional level.
Math: Aarush was given the common core state standard assessment 6.1 from an online
assessment tool, EasyCBM. This is a normed referenced, curriculum-based measure.
Normative data will be reported for the grade level assessed; additionally, accuracy data and an
item analysis will be reviewed. For this assessment, Aarush was given the option of using the
letter board to select a letter or the number side to select the numerical value for his responses,
as the questions were multiple choice. Aarush was given the option to work problems out with
the assistance of the assessor transcribing the numbers from the letter board onto paper. Rolled
paper choices were also used to verify answer choices. The results are as follows:
Expressions & Equations Solving one and two step 2/4 50%
algebraic equations, solving
exponents
Aarush correctly answered 15 of the 30 questions, which is an accuracy rating of 50%. This
score falls into the 26th percentile which is just above the low average range for a typical
student in the spring of their 6th grade year. Aarush was able to substitute to solve an equation
with 100% accuracy on one question. He had 60% accuracy on the following strands: statistic
& probability, ratios and proportions, and the number systems. This indicates that he has
received some instruction with these concepts, however, he has not mastered these skills. All
other areas were 50% or below, indicating that he would need explicit instruction on these
concepts.
This assessment was at Aarush’s frustration level, which means he has not mastered the skills
taught in 6th-grade and/or he is missing the needed prerequisite skills. Aarush needs
instruction on the prerequisite skills needed for 6th grade in order to master this content, prior to
introducing this material. Additional testing would be needed to firmly establish his current
instructional level.
