BMU-4.x Page 4
3 Safety
The BMU4.x is in accordance with the standard IEC 61010-1 and with
the UL 61010-1 / CSA C22.2 No.61010-1-04 Safety Requirements for
Electrical Equipments.
3.1 General
Check the delivery for transportation damage. If damage is found
notify the supplier as soon as possible.
Do not use BMU-4.x in an environment with explosive hazards.
Replacing battery incorrectly may result in explosion. Only use
batteries recommended by BRUKER BIOSPIN SA.
Only qualified personal should carry out repairs.
3.2 Labels
Labels are provided to alert operating and service personnel to
conditions that may cause personal injury or damage to the equipment
from misuse or abuse. Please read the labels and understand their
meaning.

The Helium is refreshed by a cold head. A controller integrated in
the BMU-4.0 regulates the Helium pressure on acting on a heater
plunged in the Helium.
The controller monitors the Helium pressure.
The BMU-4.0 monitors and controls the Helium pressure and the
heating power.
The regulation target can be changed in the service mode.
4.4.4 Screening
Starting a screening will deliver a low current in the screening coil
during two minutes to decrease the unwanted magnetic field.
The operation is started manually, and ends automatically after 2
minutes, but can be stopped during this time.
BMU-4.x Page 9
The BMU-4.x monitors and controls the state of the magnet burst
disk.
If the BMU-4.x detects that the burst disk is broken, the compressor
is switched off after 15minute.

6 Installation
Warning!
Before connecting any cable, check the position of the both
red magnet Quench button. To unlock and to set it to
neutral position (out), turn it to the right.
In lock position, it would start a magnet quench!

7 Operating
Important:
Periodically check the screen of the BMU-4.x for the
presence of alarms.
Keep the BMU-4.x internal timekeeper on date to have
valid time and date alarms tagging.
When the CPU has finished the booting, the main screen is displayed:

7.2 User interface
The operating parameters are visualized on the front display.
Settings modifications are performed with the display keyboard of the
front panel.
Two operating modes are available:
- User mode: This is the normal operating mode. It shows the
main operating parameters and the alarm messages.
- Service mode: Allows performing the installation, and the
parameters settings. The access to this mode is restricted to the
service technician only.
