SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Directions: Utilize this worksheet to help evaluate yourself and your project. Be as complete
and descriptive as possible. This self-evaluation should give the scoring team a clear picture of
what you accomplished in your project.

Name - Savannah Howell Project Start Date – Second Semester, 2020

Title of Project - Project Completion Date - February 28th, 2020

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project?

My project taught elementary school students about different cultures they may or may not have
experienced with fun and interactive activities. This was important because it taught young students to be
more accepting of differences from a young age and understand why people from other countries and
cultures may act differently than they do. It also brought a diverse group of high school students together
to share their passion about their own culture or one they had experienced or studied for an extensive
period of time. Having both groups of students interact with each other learning and teaching about
cultures strengthened the passion of the older students and gave the younger students a role model a few
years older than them to look up to and establish connections of where they could learn more about
different cultures as they get older.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you?

The project really challenged me when I emailed back and forth with and then had to present my ideas to
the principal and librarian of the elementary school because I am very shy and I had to step out of my
comfort zone and be confident. During the project, I also had to adapt plans to meet the needs of each
student group that came through and keep them engaged.

3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project.

- I myself learned more about each culture that was a part of the culture fair
- I learned to have patience working with children
- I learned to adapt lesson plans for different age groups and abilities and adapt the project
when needed
- I learned how to lead and manage a group
- I was able to better my organization skills
4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly
describe how you solved each.
- The 2020 Youth Ambassador was suddenly unable to attend my project so I had someone
else teach her station and made the groups of kids bigger so there would always be an
empty station
- There wasn’t always enough time for each station so I let some go on for longer than others
and adjusted time based on when students finished
- I had to change my plan from my project proposal to make it during the school day so that
enough people would show up and because I found that I had no time after school that I
could commit to doing the project between Governor’s School and outside obligations.
- My project date ended up being sooner than I expected it to be so I had to prepare much
quicker

5. List materials used.

- coloring utensils from the school and home
- scissors from the school

7. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the
project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

The project stayed about the same. The only thing that was different was that it was during the day
and that actually benefited it because more students were able to come.

8. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?
I probably would have just spent more time on it and made it even better.

9. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?

I learned that I like to work with kids and I like learning about different cultures. I also found out that I
could lead something and put my ideas into action.

10. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Justify the evaluation of your grade in at
least 25 words.
Grade: A

Justification:
This project took me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to not only encourage and educate 2
different school groups of students but also learn myself more and more about my topic. I was also able to
fully see my project through to the end.
