I. INTRODUCTION
We used to have fresh air to breath, greenish surroundings and taste clear and clean water.
Nowadays, tables have turned and we can see a big difference from a clean into a polluted
environment. As we all know, we are facing a lot of environmental issues such as floods, climate
change, melting of the polar ice caps and pollution. May it be from air, water or land. The main
cause of these problems are the wastes that are improperly thrown.

Restoring what was lost, we aim for the surrounding that’s greenish and full of grasses
and tall trees. Those grasses that have turned into cemented roads, those trees that are placed on
such a beautiful area have turned into enormous buildings. Deforestation is the main cause of
this, people who illegally cut down trees just for their own convenience mostly result in
landslides. These trees can prevent floods, it can fight against global warming, so if people
continue to do the same thing all over again, it would disturb the balance of its system, causing
so much loss not just with our environment but also with our way of living.

As students of Don Bosco Tarlac, we are planning to think of a program that reduces the
chance of those problems from growing. Therefore, we thought of a program that not only helps
our own community but also the world we live in. It will also serve as an inspiration in other
communities to come up with the same activities in order to maintain a clean and green
environment.

II. PURPOSE

Our purpose in our project is to help reduce waste in our surroundings and to recycle most of
the waste like plastics and metals for a better purpose as we sell it to the junk shops. As we sell
this waste, we use the money earned to buy plant/tree seeds for them to plant in their
surroundings. We want to help each and every barangay to stay clean and have a surrounding
that is beneficial to each and every person that resides in that barangay, since we want an
environment free from liters and an environment full of trees.

We aim to provide awareness of how much we are wasting every day. We want to make a
statement that we could reuse this waste as we recycle it. This is for us to teach them and make it
as “persuasive” as possible for them to participate.

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We are going to have a competition every month. Each barangay has a task to maintain
the cleanliness in their area, and they are tasked to reduce the waste by collecting and selling
them itin a junk shop. The residents of each barangay are required to participate in the said event.
At the end of every month, one barangay will be announced with the cleanest environment and
will earn a point. Then at the end of the year, the barangay with the most points will be awarded
with a prize for the efforts they made throughout the year.

The money from selling the waste materials will be collected each month; the money will
be used to buy seedlings. These seedlings will be equally distributed to each barangays and will
be planted on open areas around the barangay. This will help us to have a good environment as
we progress to have a better future.

It deals with different programs that raise awareness in different aspects, from a clean-up
drive activity, into the fund raising scenario and lastly the tree planting, all of which are
connected with each other. Through the clean-up drive activity, another activity came out of our
mind, which is to raise funds from selling the waste that has been collected, from these collected
funds, we came up with the tree planting program.

Residents would benefit a lot, mainly because these programs are implemented directly
towards their benefits. They would learn how to recycle and segregate waste properly since not
all of them are aware of it, especially the children at their young age, it is better for them to learn
these things and of course be more aware of our nature, on how to take good care of it. They
would also learn how to plant seedlings, they will appreciate how difficult it is to plant, protect
and watch over their seeds as they grow.

IV. OBJECTIVES

“Clean-Up Drive” aims to raise environmental awareness in different communities. Below are
the lists of the additional objectives of our program:

● To enhance the capabilities of the community by promoting commerce and trade;

to achieve or practice the conduct in waste management and recycling industry.
● To promote waste reduction, recycling and reuse and create public awareness on
waste management and environmental concerns.
● To improve outdoor recreational activities of the community
● To help reduce the greenhouse gases and fight climate change; improving the
quality of the natural environment.
● To set one’s mind on the well-being of future generations.

V. METHODOLOGY

Clean-Up Drive

It is the program wherein each barangay would participate in cleaning their environment, this
would be done weekly and at the end of the month, the barangay that observed cleanliness in
their community would be recognized and would earn a point for future use. At the end of the
year, the barangay with the highest number of points earned would be rewarded and will receive
a cash prize that could help in the improvement of their area.

Raising Funds

In line with the clean-up drive program, the money from selling the waste materials will be
collected each month, these funds will be used to buy seedlings and will be equally distributed to
each barangays.

Tree Planting

It is a program that advocates the appreciation of our nature. When seedlings are distributed,
each barangay is responsible for planting them on open areas that surround their place. This
program would be a great help in the increase of the quantity of trees in our locality, this would
serve as an alternative solution for those destructions brought by the uneducated people who
keep on doing things specifically deforestation, from which it destroys the beauty of our
surroundings.

VI. PROJECT NEEDS

For the success of this project, we are in need of funds, an amount that will range from
5,500-6,000. We have indicated the specific needs or the materials to be used in this project, a
total amount of 5,400 is the estimated amount to be used in order to carry out the said project,
which is the “Clean-Up Drive.”

VII. TIMETABLE

This would serve us a contest for every barangay, we are to give a point for the cleanest
barangay every month, and at the end of the year we will award the barangay who received the
highest number of points, from which we are to give them a cash prize that would serve as their
fund for other activities that would help in the improvement of their place. In December, a week
before the year ends, they are given a week to plant the seedlings given to them, and make sure
that these seedlings would grow for future benefits.
