Open Minded Communicator

An open-minded communicator is someone who can effectively right,

speak and understand English and Spanish. They can participate openly in

discussions and can comprehend and understand a variety of text. This

person uses technology and any other resources at hand to work on a

project or a task that they need to accomplish. Another thing this person is

able to do is to fully and intentionally listen to get a different opinion from

others. Can communicate their ideas openly and have in mind who is

listening to them.

Some years back I was lacking a bit and wasn't a good open minded

communicator. I say this because I did almost everything for myself, not for

others or having in mind if I was going to harm or do something bad to

others. An example where I wasn't an open minded communicator was in

10th grade I cheated on a science quiz and copied from a friend of mine.
When the teacher saw that we had the same answers she told me and my

friend that we got 0% because one of us cheated. I told the teacher that I was

the one that copied from my classmate and to give me a 0% on the quiz. The

teacher still gave both a zero. This is an example of a way I wasn't a Open

minded communicator because I was only thinking that I wanted to pass and

it didn't matter if the teacher gave a 0% to someone else that did nothing

wrong. I didn't think that I was harming another person just because I

wanted to have a good grade and an open minded communicator needs to

stop and think if what they are doing is going to harm someone.

Through the years I realized that I needed to be careful with what I did

and stop doing things only for me and start doing things for others. One

thing that helped me change was that quiz that I copied and my classmate

that did nothing wrong, got the same consequence as I did and that is not

fair. We need to respect others and if we don't respect others, we are

disrespecting ourselves because God said to treat others like how you want to

be treated and we need to do everything that God says. Something else that

helped me to put this DOULOS to do work was that we are not going to have

someone on our backs telling us what is wrong and what is right like our

teachers. We need to be responsible with what we do because of this. You

need to have good communication to have good friendships and

relationships.

An example of me being an open minded communicator is now

douring this Coronavirus quarantine. I am making sure to communicate with

my classmates and teachers to make sure I am doing things right. I am trying

my best to ask people if they need help with something and if I can help

them I will do it. Another way I am being Open minded communicator is

while protecting myself and telling others to protect themselves when we go

out. I need to be cautious with what I do because I live with my grandparents

and if I since they are seniors and dont have good immune systems I have to

protect myself so I can protect them. I am the one that goes to town and

does everything we need to do in town because I don't want them to get

infected because it can be very bad for them so I do my best.

This skill is one of the most important of the DOULOS because we are

going to be communicating a lot with different people in college, work and

other places. This is specially important for us Seniors because we are going

out of school and going into a new world and starting a new life. We need to

be able to create new friendships because we are not going to be going to

the same place with all our friends from school. We need to be able to trust in

ourselves and be responsible for everything we do.
