Parking Brake Valve

SMCS - 4282-015; 4282-016

Disassemble Parking Brake Valve

Start By:

a. remove brake control valve group

1. Disconnect tube assembly (1) and tube assembly (2) from the parking brake valve.

2. Loosen nut (3) and remove two nuts (4). Remove the parking brake valve and bracket from the plate assembly
as a unit.

3. Remove the three bolts that hold the parking brake valve to the bracket. Remove parking brake valve (5) from
bracket (6).

4. Remove switch (7) and adapter from the parking brake valve.

5. Remove the nut and eye (8) from the valve stem.

6. Remove two bolts (9). Remove cover (10) and body (11).

7. Check the condition of teflon seal (13) and the O-ring seal behind it. If the seals have damage, use new parts
for replacement.

8. Check the condition of seals (12) and (14). If the seals have damage, use new parts for replacement.

9. Remove stem (15) from cover (16). Remove the plug and seal from the end of the stem.

10. Remove snap ring (17) and seal (18) from the cover. Check the condition of the O-ring seal in the cover. If
the seal has damage, use new parts for replacement.

11. Remove the plug, spring and plunger from the cover. Check the condition of the seal on the plug. If the seal
has damage, use new parts for replacement.

Assemble Parking Brake Valve

1. Make sure all of the parts of the parking brake valve are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. Put clean
hydraulic oil on all of the parts of the valve.

2. Install a new O-ring seal inside of cover (1). Install the lip type seal in the cover with tooling (A). Install the
seal until it makes contact with the counterbore in the cover and with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the
cover.

3. Install the snap ring over the seal.

4. Install a new O-ring seal and teflon seal (2) in the valve body. Install new O-ring seals (3) and (4).

5. Install plug (6) and the O-ring seal in the end of the stem. Tighten the plug to a torque of 9 ± 2 lb ft (12 ± 3
N·m).

6. Install stem (5) in cover (1).

7. Put valve body (8) and cover (9) in position on cover (1). Install the two bolts that hold the unit together.

8. Install the switch and adapter on the parking brake valve.

9. Install the locknut and eye (7) on the stem.

10. Install the plunger, spring and plug in the cover.

11. Put the parking brake valve in position on bracket. Install the bolts that hold it.

12. Put the unit in position on the plate assembly and install the nuts that hold it.

13. Connect tube assemblies (10) and (12) to the parking brake valve.
