Shafer’s Credo

Avondale High School is an institution that is meant for learning, skill building and mentoring.
Our community depends on us to provide an excellent education and serve each individual
student with the attention they deserve. As I plan for this sabbatical leave, I want to share with
you some words to live by.

Love is the reason you are here. You need to remember to love yourself and what you do.

Honesty is what drives communication. While it may difficult to deliver the bad news, it is vital
that you acknowledge the truth in all situations. Our parents and community members deserve to
know what is always happening in the building.

Diversity/Inclusion is celebrated within this building. As a school of choice, we believe that

every child deserves an education, regardless of where they are from. Students need to recognize
difference and understand multiculturalism is part of our world. We strive to understand, not
disseminate.

Integrity is setting an example for our students, staff, and teachers. You are their guiding spirit,
and every decision that you make is going to influence their role here in the building. Always
make the best decision.

Respect is learned. In all situations, it is important that you remain the bigger person.

Safety is a concern for all of us these days. When children walk through our gates, we are saying
we will protect you. At no point should a student ever feel as if they are in danger while they are
in our custody.
