Digital Media Literacy Reflection

Item 1: Flyer - I made a flyer in word for my company. I used white and blue as they are the
corporate colours, that I choose to use for my business. I placed my logo at the top of the 5A
sheet in the centre. My contract details were added beneath and the discount code for the
shop. I enjoyed making this because it was fun, quick and easy.
Item 2: Business Card – As well as making the logo on Canva, I also created my business card.
Using my corporate colours as the background, I attached my logo, email, website, telephone
number and address.
Item 3: Slideshows – My slideshow was created on Weebly to show off my big van and small
van. Each slideshow contains 4 slides of each side of each van.
Item 4: Logo - I created my logo by using the website Canva. It was an easy process which only
took a few steps. I entered my business name into the website and choose the industry it fitted
in, then picked my favourite style. This was a fun project to make are really wasn’t that hard.
Item 5: Vans – I created a small and large van. The van advertises the company and had the
logo, telephone number, address, website and Gmail.
Item 6: Contact Page – I made the contact page on a word document. Its contents contain the
company’s headquarters, the telephone number, website and email. It also shares our social
media usernames for both Facebook and Instagram.

Problems I encountered:
1) WIFI – The wifi in the school wasn’t the best and cause a small problem every day in the
computer lab. Items wouldn’t load and were unable to download so we would have to
complete at home. This made it more difficult for the course to complete but I managed to do
so.
2) Bringing my own device in – As the computer lab wasn’t available on one of the days, we
had DML class, we had to bring in our own computers each week. This proved a struggle as
many of the students in the class had either forgot their device or didn’t have one to bring in.
This made it very had to have a produced class, as the people without computers made noise
and disturbed the class.
3) Computers available – The full class of 30 had to share the computer room with not enough
computers for all the students, so the last students in the room had to sit as desks and
complete their work on their own devices if they had brought them in.
4) Working from home - It was hard to stay motivated and productive throughout this
quarantine. It was very difficult, but I got the job done and finished the DML course.

Do you feel you can use technology better?

I believe I have improved in my technology skills over the last two years
Do you feel safer online?
I do feel safer online, as I have learned about the dangers and understand how to be cautious
and safe when it comes to meeting people online and what I post and how sees it because once
its on the internet it can never be fully deleted.
Did you like the Weebly approach to posting your work?
Weebly was a helpful, safe platform to post work on. It was easy to use and organized well.
Did you like the course?
I enjoyed the class as if was a fun, easy class and it was simple to complete as long as you kept
up with all the work throughout the year.
Did you like your teacher?
I thought the teacher was helpful and understanding.
Any suggestions as to how the course might be improved?
I think a way in which the DML course could improve is to understand that not all children have
a computer or device that they can either use or bring into school every day. Some families
cannot afford one and I think its unfair to demand it in every class and punish the students for
something they can’t do anything about.
