/ Wed 25th the Gaelic-Irish in the later medieval period
1.00-1.45pm When the Anglo-Normans arrived in Ireland in the
later twelfth century, they arrived to a landscape
already busy with people and settlements. The old Explore the history of the Vikings,
adage tells us that the Anglo-Normans became Egyptians, Romans and Cypriots
'more Irish than the Irish themselves' but these new at Kildare St.
neighbours brought with them new settlement types
and new ways of managing the landscape. The
archaeological evidence for the interactions between
the arriving Anglo-Norman and the native
population will be discussed in this presentation by
Dr Linda Shine of the Discovery Programme.
