Vanillin

Vanillin is a phenolic aldehyde, which is an organic compound. Vanillin

functional groups include aldehyde, penol, and ether. It is the primary component of
the extract of the vanilla bean.Vanillin was first isolated as a relatively pure
substance in 1858 by Nicolas-Theodore Gobley. The chemical formula of vanillin is
C6H8O31

Vanillin is highly reactive with Bromine and potassium

tert-butoxide,tert-chlorobenzene + NaOH, formic acid + Tl(NO3)3 and perchloric
acid. The researcher has not been discovered if it was flammable or not.
Vanillin is soluble in cold water. Vanillin is freely soluble in chloroform, carbon
disulfide, glacial acetic acid, pyridine, oils, and in aqueous solutions of alkali
hydroxides. Vanillin has an acute toxicity2. The boiling point of vanillin is
285°C(545°F) and the melting Point: 81 °C(178 °F). It has a density of 1.06 g/cm³.
Vanillin is a covalent Bond. The molar Mass is 152.15 g/mol. Vanillin has a white or
light yellow crystals. The odors are vanilla, sweet, balsamic and pleasant3

Vanillin became widely available to the whole in the 19th century. Then
around that time there were scientists who discovered that vanillin can also be
extracted from clove oil. Then from this creation making vanillin commercially
available to the world. In present, vanillin is used for flavouring the foods, beverages
fragrance, pharmaceuticals and cleaning products. It is commonly used in the food
and flavor industry. In the flavor industry vanillin is a very important key note for
many different flavors, especially creamy profiles like cream soda. Vanillin can
trigger allergic reactions. 4

Vanillyl alcohol
There is not much information about vanillyl alcohol. Vanillyl alcohol is derived
from vanillin. Vanillyl alcohol is a mono methoxybenzene that is 2-methoxyphenol
substituted by a hydroxymethyl group at position 4. It has a role as a plant
metabolite. It is a member of guaiacols and a member of benzyl alcohols. Vanillyl
alcohol has been used in trials studying the treatment of Smoking. The chemical
formula of vanillyl alcohol is C8H10O3.5

The chemical and physical of vanillyl alcohol. The appearance of vanillyl

alcohol is crystalline white to off white powder. The density is 1
 .226 g/cm3. The
melting point and boiling point is 112-115ºC and 313.1ºC at 760 mmHg in order. It is
soluble in water and it is incomplete with strong oxidizing agents and strong acids.6
