Inauguration of NIE IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at NIE, Mysuru

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing

technology for the benefit of humanity. It is a hub of knowledge, sharing and disseminating from
world-wide persons and researchers.

IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Chapter is a technical sub-unit of IEEE Sections and it
consists of PES members who share technical interests. The vision of IEEE PES is to be the
leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the
betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for its members

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, NIE, Mysuru has a PG Power System
programme with a student strength of 36 and UG programme with around 240 students. The
department has 7 faculty members with PhD specialized in Power Systems Engineering. It also
has a research centre where the core area of research is Power and Energy Systems. As such the
department has produced 20 doctorates in the field of Power and Energy Systems and another 19
are pursuing doctorate programme in the same area of specialization.

In the background of the above an Active Chapter on Power and Energy Society can be one of
the most positive elements for the department by offering programs, activities, professional
networking, special events/conference, etc. Hence The Department is establishing NIE IEEE
Power and Energy Society on 17th March 2018 under NIE IEEE Student Branch Chapter at NIE,
Mysuru. In days to come this chapter will become a knowledge hub in the area of Power and
Energy Systems networking engineering institutions, industry and other organizations of similar
interest.

Inauguration of NIE IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at NIE, Mysuru

NIE IEEE Power and Energy Society was inaugurated on 17th March 2018 under NIE IEEE
Student Branch Chapter at NIE, Mysuru.

The Chapter was inaugurated by the Chief guest Er. V Suresh, Chair, IEEE PES Bangalore
Chapter and General Manager, Power System Operation Corporation Ltd. The Guest of Honor of
the event was Dr. R. Nagaraja, Senior Member of IEEE, former Chair of IEEE PES Bangalore
Chapter & Managing Director, PR&DC Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. Er. T.K. Chittaranjan, Director,
NIE Board of Management presided over the function. Principal Dr. G. Ravi was present. Dr. N.
Kumar, Professor and HoD, Dept of Electrical and Electronics Engineering welcomed and
introduced the guests to the august gathering. Dr. H. Pradeepa, Faculty Advisor, explained about
the proposed activities under IEEE PES Student Chapter. Kum. Vidya proposed the vote of
thanks and Kum. Avisha compered the programme.

Subsequent to the inauguration there were two technical presentations, one by Sri. V. Suresh. He
spoke about the role of various Indian agencies in Indian power sector and challenges in
integrating distributed generation to the grid. Dr. R. Nagaraju spoke about smart grid and also
about various activities that can be taken up under IEEE Power and Energy Society.
