Acceptance for Oral Presentation at the ASEAN Emerging Researchers Conference 2019

Congratulations! We are delighted to inform that you have been selected for an ORAL
PRESENTATION at the ASEAN Emerging Researchers Conference 2019 (ASEAN ERC
2019), which will be held at Sunway University, Malaysia from the 9th – 10th of December 2019.
The selection was based on the high quality and importance of the research work that was
presented in the abstract submitted.
The aim of the ASEAN Emerging Researchers Conference is to create a platform for researchers
from the ASEAN region and the ASEAN research diaspora to drive research excellence in the
region. We hope to enhance interdisciplinary knowledge sharing, learning and collaboration
between scientists from the ASEAN region and its research diaspora as well as to identify emerging
research niches/areas that the ASEAN research community should champion to address local
needs and global challenges. Thus, your work that you will be presenting is vital towards
enriching the research dialogue during the conference.
Since it is a multi-disciplinary conference and we will have participants from diverse research
disciplines. Each session will have presenters and audience from various backgrounds and
disciplines. Therefore, we strongly urge you to deliver your presentation for a general
audience (similar to Ted talk presentations). Please try your best to avoid jargons, technical
terms and complex diagrams or images without clear explanation. It would be great if you can:
a) Share an overview of your research area;
b) Describe the problem that you are addressing – contextualize to an ASEAN perspective
c) State the impact of the work – including social impact;
d) Relate your data to the significance of your work;
e) Give future perspectives on how your work can reach its desired impact e.g. the kind of
collaborations/skillsets/network that you need

Awards will also be given to the best presenters as voted by the audience.
We would like to kindly remind you of the format for the oral presentation:
 Your exact presentation slot will be communicated to you once the full presentation schedule
is confirmed.
 You are given 8 minutes for the presentation which will be followed by a 5 minute Q&A
 Please bring your USB stick and upload your slides to the computer provided during
registration on Day 1(*please note that all slides will be deleted at the end of the session)
 The only accepted format for the slides is Microsoft Powerpoint (in 4:3 layout).
 The session room will be set up with a screen, a computer with a mouse and keyboard, laser
pointer and microphones

General ASEAN ERC 2019 Information:

Registration
The ASEAN Emerging Researchers Conference will start on Monday, the 9th of December 2019
at JC1, Level 1, Sunway University, 5, Jalan Universiti, 47500 Bandar Sunway, Malaysia.
Registration will begin from 7.00 am onwards at the Foyer (outside of JC1). Your Registration
ID will be provided to you closer to the date of the conference. Please complete the conference
fee payment if you have not done so and present your Registration ID during registration.

Bring your Own Water Bottle Policy

In line with the National Zero Single-Use Plastic Policy and Sunway University’s commitment to
the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, no bottled water will be provided throughout the
conference. We recommend that you bring your own water bottles. Water dispensers will be
available throughout the campus.

Parking
Our on-campus visitor paid parking at Sunway University is limited and on a first-come first-serve
basis. Additional parking lots are available at BRT SunU-Monash station and Sunway Pyramid.
Sunway Pyramid and Sunway University are connected via an elevated canopy walk. Please refer
to the attachment for further details. Please come early to ensure that you secure that you secure
your parking spot.

Conference Attendance
The Conference will involve keynote lectures, plenary forums, oral presentations, oral highlights,
workshops and group discussions. Your active participation is integral to ensure the success of the
conference. We have created a passport system to record your attendance and participation
throughout the conference. Certificate of attendance will only be awarded to you if you have
attended and participated in 80% of the programme.
