LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE
In this lesson…
students will explore different webpages and interact with virtual models to
Overview learn about magnets. The modules are meant to reinforce and add on to the
content in the videos.
2.2- Force, Motion, and Energy
The student will investigate and understand that natural and artificial magnets
have certain characteristics and attract specific types of metals. Key concepts
Standards of Learning include the following:
a) magnetism, iron, magnetic/nonmagnetic, poles, attract/repel; and
b) important applications of magnetism.
Students will be able to…
understand that natural and artificial magnets have certain characteristics and
Objectives attract specific types of metals.

I can identify the north and south poles of a magnet.

Learning Target I can use a compass to identify the directions of the North and South poles.
I can identify important uses for magnets in everyday life.

Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught

Lesson Title (Subecjt/Topc):
Date of Lesson Taught:
Cooperating Teacher & School
Grade: 2nd
Time of Day:

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your lesson?

Adapted from the Teacher Cadet Curriculum, Property of CERRA—South Carolina © 2004, and/or the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow Curriculum
John M. Merritt, English Teacher at Kellam High School (Virginia Beach City Public Schools)
Before I created this lesson I thought about how my teachers taught me this content. Then, I thought about
what online resources I could use that the students have access to. I was not able to discuss anything with
anyone.

2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
It really narrowed down what content I had to search for. There were different objectives that had to be

3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?

I think the abundance of online resources made this plan easier than it would have been otherwise.

4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?

none

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed?

I think I did well.

6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
I think the assessment is more of a thing where the students can assess where they are at right now. However,
it is useful for the teacher to see as well.

7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
I think this lesson was a success. I didn’t teach it, so I wonder how it would have turned out.

8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to it’s success?
I spent a long time thinking about how to convey the content digitally. I think the plan could be improved with
better resources, but I think overall it is okay.

9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I would spend a longer time trying to find free high quality resources to use in my lesson.

10. Any last comments/reflections about your lesson?

11. none
